Empowering our community to create a fair, affordable, zero carbon energy system with local people at its heart.
About us
Plymouth Energy Community (PEC) is an independent charity established in June 2013 to empower our community to create a fair, affordable, zero carbon energy system with local people at its heart. Its mission is: - To increase local ownership and influence over local energy solutions - To increase community confidence to engage in energy issues - To enable people to heat and power their homes affordably - To reduce greenhouse gas emissions - To ensure these activities benefit the fuel poor and most vulnerable - To bring local people and organisations together to tackle fuel poverty and the climate crisis. Working in partnership with a number of energy-related organisations, PEC has been able to facilitate Plymouth communities to take action to change their own energy future. The society offers a range of services including an Energy Team providing support and energy advice in the home, office and at events, insulation grant programmes and training programmes and opportunities to participate, as well as enabling locally-owned renewable energy installations. In 2014, PEC set up PEC Renewables, a professionally managed Community Benefit Society owned by its Members, to deliver locally owned renewable energy installations that could reduce bills, save carbon and generate income to support other local energy and fuel poverty projects across the City. There are now 33 community-owned solar installations and PEC is currently venturing into community-owned energy efficient and affordable housing. All companies in the PEC family are run by volunteer Trustees/Directors and are staffed through a service level agreement with the Low Carbon CIty Team at Plymouth City Council.

We often use the word retrofit, but it's not always clear what it means. It sounds a bit "jargony", doesn't it? Well, retrofit simply means adding solutions to make your home more energy efficient, reduce energy consumption and/or heat loss. Upgrading your boiler is definitely retrofit! #PECFutureFit #homeupgrade #retrofit #heatingsystems #warmhome #homeinsulation

At first, Sofia was unsure about installing solar panels. Fitting them required additional roof space, which meant removing a large chimney. Sofia valued the aesthetic of her old chimney and was reluctant to give up her open fire. However, when repairs to her large chimney became necessary, Sofia realised that removing it and replacing the open fire with an efficient wood-burning stove would actually be more cost-effective than repairing it. Sofia embraced this opportunity to use the reclaimed roof space for fitting six solar panels. 👉To find out more about Sofia's journey, check our website https://lnkd.in/dfS-9sD9 #plymouthenergycommunity #PECFutureFit #retrofit #homeupgrade #insulation #energyefficiency #solarpv #heatingsystems

Sofia’s house, like many older properties in Plymouth, presented significant challenges. With its solid, thick walls and lack of insulation, the home struggled to retain heat, leaving rooms cold and damp. These issues not only made the house uncomfortable but also had an impact on Sofia’s day-to-day life. Check our website to find out how Plymouth Energy Community, her local community energy organisation, supported her to make her home warmer, more comfortable and energy efficient. https://lnkd.in/dfS-9sD9 #plymouthenergycommunity #retrofit #homeupgrade #insulation #heatingsystems #solarpv #energyefficiency
