Virtual cards promise an overhaul of archaic B2B payments processes, yet their adoption is stifled by supplier acceptance. In a conversation with PYMNTS, our CEO Paul Christensen was quick to point this out, highlighting that while 80% of buyers favor virtual cards, their usage accounts for just 2% of their accounts payable transactions. However, he sees this as just a temporary hurdle. For years, the use of cards in B2B payments has been rising but it hasn’t quite broken into the mainstream yet. However, with the news that American Express is set to provide virtual card processing services, buyers and suppliers in the B2B space are increasingly waking up to a new reality.
