About us
PRFI is a UK based design house specialising in the design and development of RFICs, MMICs and microwave & mmWave modules. We have designed over 150 custom ICs at frequencies ranging from baseband to 100GHz and are a third party design house for GCS, Qorvo, WIN and Wolfspeed. Our designs are used in a wide range of applications from test instrumentation to infrastructure equipment and high volume consumer wireless devices including mmWave 5G. We have in-house test facilities for both bare die (RFOW) and SMT packaged components. Our microwave and mm-wave module development activity encompasses a wide range of technologies including conventional SMT on laminate substrates, High Density Interconnect (HDI), chip and wire, thin film, thick film and LTCC.

Although the document focuses on telecoms, many of the recommendations are pertinent to the UK semiconductor industry in general – particularly the issues around skills, supply chain and scale-up #semiconductors #telecoms #UK
🔍 We are delighted to announce the release of our Semiconductors Expert Working Group’s (EWG) Future Capability Paper, which looks to establish where the UK can advance research, development and innovation towards 2030 and beyond 🚀 Some of the paper’s observations include: 1️⃣ The size of the semiconductor industry: the 4th largest industry in the world, generated more than $500 million in revenue in 2021 2️⃣ How the semiconductor and electronics sector is a critical and fundamental enabler of the UK economy 3️⃣ The significant strengths the UK has in semiconductors, especially those related to telecoms 4️⃣ The UK’s expertise in digital design, especially processor design and semiconductor system design The paper identifies the need for long-term, coordinated and well-funded semiconductor initiatives, with telecoms as a key segment. The paper proposes these initiatives should be delivered across three strands: supply chain, skills and scale-up - more on this in the report 📑. Ramya T R, our summer student from last year, has been awarded the ‘Best Final Year Project’ on her MSc course at Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd University for her research undertaken whilst working at PRFI. Her project was titled ‘Video/Instantaneous Bandwidth Improvements in Power Amplifiers’, a challenging and highly relevant topic for modern communications systems. Congratulations Ramya!
