Professional Standards Authority
Public Safety
We protect the public by overseeing the regulation and registration of healthcare professionals.
About us
We work in professional healthcare regulation in the UK. We have two main roles: 1) The regulators we oversee ‘register’ health and care professionals working in occupations that Parliament has said must be regulated. For example, doctor, nurse, pharmacist and paramedic. 2) We assess organisations that register health and social care practitioners who are not regulated by law so that you can choose a practitioner to meet your needs with confidence. To date, we have accredited 24 registers which operate under the umbrella of Accredited Registers. Whether you're a member of the public or a healthcare professional responsible for commissioning or referrals, we ALWAYS recommend that you check a practitioner is regulated or registered.
