We need to change the misconception that procurement is just about choosing the lowest price supplier. And yes, we will always have to reduce costs and deliver savings as part of our job. But there are 3 problems with the way we're perceived: 1) Stakeholders often mistakenly think that's ALL we do. 2) Finance often struggles to reconcile what we report with what they see in the P&L. 3) There is often no visibility around the wider value we deliver together with our business stakeholders. We need to improve our communication. Most procurement pros want to move from being a tactical cost savings function to being seen as a value generating fulcrum of the business. One way to do that? Use a centralised application to enter, monitor, track and report on all procurement activities we're involved in. It's not about claiming the savings. It's about communicating what we're working on and enabling Finance and Operations to monitor and contribute to the projects in one single source of truth. Not a spreadsheet, prone to human error.
