Public Digital reposted this
Very excited to announce that Jennifer Pahlka and I have published a new paper called 'The How We Need for Now: A Capacity Agenda for 2025 and beyond'. You can read it here: https://lnkd.in/geYda8ib State capacity and public service reform are back on the agenda in the US, UK and beyond. Whatever your thoughts on who’s in power - and we all have thoughts - if the machinery of government can’t translate democratic intent into changes that people can feel and see, we all lose. State capacity may not be the talk of the bars and malls of America, but we think the consequences of it are profoundly shaping the lives and futures of people in those places. The report sets out what we perceive the challenges to be, why they matter, and most importantly - how we think they could start to be unravelled. We take heart from some of the recent notes of optimism in the UK, and explore how the US could be at a unique moment of opportunity to renew its public realm. Huge thank you to stellar colleagues at the Niskanen Center and Public Digital for their help in making this happen. It's ideal holiday reading...

This year we are proud to be supporting two good causes with a donation of £25k. The second recipient charity for 2024, as chosen by our colleagues, is Hope Behind Bars Africa. This Nigerian-based human rights organisation provides access to justice and legal support for the economically vulnerable who are unfairly impacted by an unequal justice system. Supporting organisations like HBBA is an important expression of who we are as a values-driven organisation. https://lnkd.in/dSKpu9hV #HumanRights #Nigeria #Socialvalue

In keeping with our annual tradition at this time of year we will be making a charitable donation of £25k to two charities chosen by our colleagues. What began a few years ago as an alternative to Christmas gifts for clients has evolved into an important expression of who we are as a values-driven organisation. The first beneficiary is the Good Things Foundation. This inspirational organisation is dedicated to fixing the digital divide, helping people to use and access the internet and technology. https://lnkd.in/eVbCeCu #digitalInclusion #charity #socialvalue

There's been a lot of talk about 'test and learn' since Pat McFadden's speech on public sector reform on Monday, but just what does it mean? Read more from Dave Rogers: https://lnkd.in/eZsE8qhK #testandlearn #government

🎙️ Exciting to hear Andrew Greenway on BBC Radio 4's World at One today, discussing how test-and-learn approaches can transform government departments. With Pat McFadden urging Whitehall to adopt this mindset as part of a £100m public sector reform initiative, it’s clear that agile thinking and innovation are gaining momentum in the public sector. These principles have long been central to driving real change, and it’s inspiring to see them shaping the future of government.
