From all of us here at QB Wood Architects, we want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and all the best for the new year! Our office is closed over the festive period but we will be back on Monday 6th January refreshed and ready to take on 2025.
About us
The practice of Architecture has changed considerably over recent years and as a result we are not only involved in conventional procurement of the design of buildings, but also taking an active role in the instigation of projects, by identifying sites and producing feasibilities and appropriate schemes. This, along with close contact with the building industry results in these ideas being identified for the specific needs of the appropriate client. The practice also believes that the quality of their professional service must match the quality of their finished work. Design and construction concepts are adopted which consistently satisfy clients' expectations and occupants requirements

Last month, we hosted a charity event for Maggie's Edinburgh, and it was amazing to see so many people come together for a great cause! Some cycled 45 miles to the Falkirk Wheel and back, while others enjoyed a 10-mile walk around Dalmeny Estate. Watch the video below to see everyone's efforts. If you missed the chance to donate, don’t worry—the JustGiving page is still live until the end of the week! We’ve already raised an incredible £5,464 for this fantastic cause. 🙌❤️

We recently completed a concept design for a house in Fife. It was decided to be built on stilts to combat potential flooding risk on site. The use of timber cladding seamlessly blends with its surroundings. The client’s brief was to create big open plan room filled with lots of light and views out to nature. If you are interested in doing a concept design for your project you can send us a message or email on: info@qbwoodarchitects.com

Last week we attended a fundraising dinner for Yampil, the new Asiatic Black bear at Five Sisters Zoo. Yampil is named after the village he was rescued from in Ukraine and is in need of a new home which Five Sisters Zoo is trying to provide for him. The evening was full of different entertainment which we thoroughly enjoyed, and we hope that Yampil will soon have a perfect home where he can live a happy life. You can donate and help Yampil to the link below: https://lnkd.in/eycd56Tn

We recently completed a project near Portobello, Edinburgh which was a full renovation and extension of a 1960s bungalow. The existing house featured two conservatories that were hardly used and an impractical floor plan. Our approach involved removing the existing conservatories and extension to create a cohesive, open-plan space. The open plan area has a vaulted ceiling, with multiple rooflights to create a spacious and bright space. There is a fully glazed gable end to not only bring more light in but also creates a special connection with the garden. We incorporated bookcases within the walls to create a perfect space to look out to the garden and read a book. The exterior features a combination of light brickwork and contrasting dark grey composite cladding to create a modern façade. The Danish brick size is slightly longer than a standard UK brick which balanced with the interrupting full height windows and vertical cladding.
