What a treat to be in Curaçao at Asociación de Zonas Francas de las Américas - AZFA's annual gathering 🌴. Needless to say the "big unknown" that is the re-election of Donald Trump was the talk of the town. Many of those in the Latin American business community I spoke to maintain a glass-half-full perspective, confident that the nearshoring momentum they've benefited from will continue — even in the face of potential universal tariffs. Yet, there’s widespread recognition of the volatility ahead, especially if Trump’s pledge to deport 13 million people comes through. Kudos to Azfa's leadership with Martín Gustavo Ibarra Pardo, Juan Pablo Rivera, Claudia Pellerano, CARLOS WONG, Julio Rodríguez for their continuous efforts to raise the benchmark for the Latin American free zones community; Curinde N.V.'s Jacqueline Jansen for hosting us; and Quadrian's Jorge Alberto Diaz Rivera and Karim Palmieri and Angela Maria Sandoval Garcia for putting together an excellent event; and my fellow panelists Shannon Fura, Nika Manukova, James Zhan, Rafał Żelazny. #FDI

Many thanks and big congratulations to the organizers of the XXVII Iberoamerican Congress of Free Zones - Asociación de Zonas Francas de las Américas - AZFA and Curinde N.V., supported by Quadrian, in which I had the privilege to attend last week in Willemstad on a beautiful island of Curaçao in the Caribbean Sea. The Congress appeared to be very informative while it concentrated on geopolitical aspects of investments and it underlined the latest trends connected with zone’s operation, including the use of AI. It was also a great networking experience while it gathered many experts in the field of economic development and foreign direct investments. Thanks to the conference I also learned that Curacao can be a great investment location, especially to companies planning their expansion to South America. I have to admit that I am amazed how the free trade zones of the Ibero-America are cooperating together for the sake of the region’s economic growth. I wish we had something similiar in Europe... By integrating advanced technologies like artificial intelligence into SEZ operations, we can unlock efficiencies, enhance decision-making and optimise the way these zones function. AI-powered solutions can streamline administrative processes, improve resource allocation and support data-driven strategies that attract tenants and investors. In a panel session yesterday during the XXVII Conferencia de Zonas Francas de Iberoamérica, our CEO Karim Palmieri said, “There are companies out there that can solve problems that SEZs face — small, innovative companies that are prepared to adapt their offering for zones.” One shining example is the Katowicka Specjalna Strefa Ekonomiczna S.A. (KSSE) in Poland, which has embraced innovation and collaboration with startups, accelerators and incubators. These partnerships have fostered tech-driven solutions that elevate zone operations while creating value for tenants and the surrounding community. This was highlighted in the panel by Rafał Żelazny, President of the Board of KSSE. Incubators and accelerators within SEZs act as catalysts for transformative change, nurturing startups that can solve critical challenges in logistics, energy, and infrastructure. By embedding these ecosystems into SEZs, zones become not only economic engines but also innovation leaders. The fast growing company alteam was mentioned as an emerging player in this space, directly scaling incubators and venture builders by innovating the consideration and integration of fractional teams to high-growth start ups as part of their local and global expansion paths. 🌐El #CZFB ha participado esta semana en la 27a edición del Congreso de Zonas Francas de Iberoamérica, organizado por la Asociación de Zonas Francas de las Américas - AZFA celebrado en Curaçao. El delegado especial del Estado en el CZFB, Pere Navarro Morera, y la directora general del CZFB, Blanca Sorigué Borrell, han representado a la entidad en el que es el mayor encuentro del sector en Iberoamérica, donde existen más de 800 zonas francas que albergan a más de 11.000 empresas. 🙌En el marco de este congreso se ha celebrado la Asamblea de la AZFA, donde la directora general del CZFB, Blanca Sorigué, ha sido reelegida -con 54 votos a favor- como vocal de la Junta Directiva que seguirá presidida por Claudia Pellerano.
