Have you ever found yourself staring at a spinning hourglass waiting for an email client to respond? At QTG we have firsthand experience of working with hardware and removing hidden costs that you may not even notice. For example, we worked with a client who wanted to virtualise their entire server estate and run their virtual servers to 80% or more of their maximum capacity. We asked two questions: 1.  Did you look at the peak NIC traffic of all the servers and work out what effect that would have on the applications themselves when you consolidate different business critical systems onto the same physical hardware but virtualised? 2.  If they are using 80% capacity, where would they fail that over to if they have any form of medium size outage of the data centre? They had not considered either of these questions and quickly realised that their plan would create huge hidden costs that had not been factored in their discussions.
