It's United Nations #WorldChildrensDay today - commemorating the date in 1959 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. In 2023, our charities collectively helped more than 78,000 children and families. And there's so much more work to be done. We choose to work with small charities, because they often work locally and understand the specific challenges faced. They’re better positioned to build relationships in the community, and help those hardest to reach. Just because they’re small doesn’t mean they don’t do work with real impact.

Shout out for volunteers! We know volunteering can come in all shapes and sizes and has the ability to be life changing. Our partner, YouMeBumBumTrain - the cult immersive theatre experience that opens in London on 26th November - is run and built by volunteers. They are all working together to create something incredible, and that something incredible is changing the lives of children and young people one set-build/ cup of tea/ costume design, at a time. It's #AntiBullyingWeek and a chance to highlight the brilliant team at Kidscape who work directly with children and families experiencing bullying. They give young people, parents and professionals the tools and confidence to challenge bullying and abuse in all forms.

November is Family Caregivers Month – an opportunity to raise awareness of those who make sacrifices every day to care for their family members. Across all of our 15 Raise Your Hands charities, you will find shining examples of family caregivers. Today marks the start of National Care Leavers Week – a national campaign to raise awareness of the issues that those in care face. We know from our work with Become that children in care rarely get favours or leg-ups. There are over 100,000 children in care in the UK but simply not enough places for them to live. Some children are moved multiple times each year, having to build new relationships or change schools, without the stability of a place to call home. When they succeed it is often despite the system, not because of it. Become’s mission is to help children in care and young care leavers believe in themselves – to heal, grow and unleash their potential.
