Industrial-grade I/O modules powered by Raspberry Pi gather accurate data from temperature sensors. When upgrading their devices for high-precision temperature data acquisition from thermocouples and resistance thermometers, SENECA opted for Raspberry Pi’s RP2040 microcontroller chip, due to its low cost, ease of integration, and extensive supporting documentation. In industry, temperature is the most frequently measured physical variable. The detection of critical parameters, such as the speed and response time of a process, the consumption of raw materials, the requirements of a product, and the performance or quality of a process, depends on the accuracy and frequency with which temperature is measured. Temperature also affects many other factors, such as the efficiency and energy consumption of a process, resource optimisation, and plant and machinery lifecycle. Aiming to create two new, high-precision devices for temperature data acquisition, SENECA | Automation Interfaces wanted to upgrade the products in its catalogue with “more innovative and efficient technologies,” says Manuel Moschin, R&D / Software Development Manager. “We set out to make high-performance, cost-effective devices based on readily available microcontrollers, and with a rapid firmware upgrade system.” The use of Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller chips has enabled SENECA to “incorporate a set of features that make it particularly advantageous for use in I/O modules, combining high performance, versatility, power efficiency, and excellent value for money.” Read more about this industrial application of Raspberry Pi: https://lnkd.in/dfmTqAYx
