🚨 Advice from a placement student who secured her placement LATE!! 🚨 Set yourself small goals, here’s what I did: Decide on a set amount of jobs you want to apply for every week, I applied to 4-9 every week ➡️ Make this goal achievable, just because I applied to that many a week doesn’t mean you should, it all depends on how much time it takes to send off an application and how much spare time you have in a week Work on the stages you were getting rejected at before, e.g the psychometric testing  ➡️ This will help you develop those skills needed at each stage Broaden your horizons, e.g from social media marketing to marketing, from London to South East England  ➡️ This will give you the chance to find more roles available and explore other opportunities. Don’t get bogged down by being too specific with your search, this year is all about developing your skillset, it doesn’t need to be exactly what you want to do forever! Speak to your unis career services, and see what advice they can give you (I had monthly meetings with my unis team!) ➡️ It’s nice to have a chat with people, and it makes you feel less alone in the process Celebrate small wins! Anytime I got through the next stage or even sent off an application I celebrated (think sweet treat, fav tv show etc.) ➡️ This will help you stay motivated and have a reason to complete an application and continue to try your best Try building up your LinkedIn, it can be as simple as reposting and liking others' posts if you don’t want to post yourself  ➡️ Sometimes employers will look at this so there’s no harm in making your profile a true reflection of your skills and expertise - a professional profile pic and a strong headline is a great place to start! It’s okay to feel defeated at this point but don’t give up! There are loads of opportunities that come out from January to August so try not to stress yourself out! Make sure to check out RateMyPlacement to find placements! (https://lnkd.in/eQ4j8cGB) Have faith in yourself and your abilities 🤗 REMEMBER: ✨You need and should take regular days off, it’s okay to prioritise other things for a while - job applications should not take up all your time! ✨It’s normal to feel stressed at this point, but take a deep breath and do your best. You got this 💙 #placement #advice #applications #job #earlycareers

  • Employers are catching you using AI because of these three things ⬇️ 🥇AI is a tool, NOT a replacement 🙅♀️ 👉 It is obvious when an application lacks a personal touch. Using AI to refine grammar, spelling and formatting is fine. BUT, using it to create your applications is not. Add in examples that demonstrate your skills. 🥈Highlight your skills, not the AI 💡 👉 Using AI to help know what skills and experiences to show is useful. However, make sure it truly reflects you and how you are. NEVER fabricate experiences and skills that you don’t possess. This can so easily backfire during an interview. Keep truthful to yourself and add experiences that are personal to you. 🥉American Spelling 🏋️♀️ 👉 Interchanging American and English spelling may give it away that you’ve used AI. Make sure you’re checking that you’re using the right spelling, check the Zs!! ✅ BONUS TIP 👉 You won’t be the only candidate using AI. If there are phrases that you and another candidate are both consistently using, you’re both giving yourself away! After a while of using AI platforms like ChatGPT, you’ll start spotting the usual terms and phrases that AI use in relation to CVs and cover letters, so take them out! #AI #recruiter #AIapplications #applications #apprenticeship

⚠️ If you’re applying to placements, internships or grad roles… We need to talk about psychometric tests ⚠️ Not sure what they are or how to do them? Here’s your complete guide to psychometric testing ⬇️ 1️⃣ What are they testing? 😚 Personality - so your way of thinking, interests, beliefs, and values 🎨 Ability - so your knowledge and skills 🏃♀️ Aptitude - your natural ability to do something 2️⃣ Different types of psychometric tests 🤓 Personality questions - this will help the company predict how you may act in work situations ☝️ Numerical reasoning - how you think using numbers 🙊 Verbal reasoning - your ability to understand written information (it’s giving English Language GCSE) 😱 Situational Judgement Tests - how you react to certain situations 🧡 Abstract/spatial reasoning - how you understand patterns, logical, rules or work with shapes 3️⃣ Why do companies do it? 🧠 To understand how your brain works 💨 Be able to go through a lot of candidates quickly 👯 To see if you would be the right fit for their company culture 4️⃣ How to practise The idea is to get familiar with the types of questions you will be presented with. Normally you have a set amount of time to complete the questions so you need to: 👉 Work fast 👉 & make sure you aren’t making silly mistakes You can practise psychometric tests through sites like ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eFFukxkS  https://lnkd.in/ef93kyij https://lnkd.in/gRSFpY6 5️⃣ How to be successful? Some specific types of test tips: 📈In Abstract/spatial reasoning: Look for the patterns what’s increasing/decreasing/staying the same at every stage 🔈Verbal Reasoning: ignore previous knowledge you have, if it doesn’t say it in the text, it doesn’t say it at all Some general tips: 🙋 Know how much time you have and how long you should spend on each question, you should usually find out right before you take the test, so work how long you can spend on each question 💃 Know when its time to move on - if you’re really stuck on a question, there is normally more harm then good wasting time on it - guess and move on 🚂 Make sure you have good wifi and are in a quite location nothing is worse then loosing your train of thought #applications #placement #internship #graduate #gradjobs

I secured a placement year! 💪 Here are my do’s and don’ts of applications ⬇️ ✅ Read the job description and highlight relevant experience or skills to make yourself match the job description ❌ Apply for every and any job that you see, make sure you actually like the company’s values and the job that you would be doing ✅ Keep track of your applications as there are sometimes really long periods in between application stages and you don’t want to forget the research you have already done ❌ Underestimate how valuable soft/transferable skills are ✅ Quantify your achievements where possible - increased X by X% ❌  Let your interviewer ask all the questions, have some ready to ask at the end of the interview! ✅ Trust your gut, if an employer is being a red flag, don’t continue the application - how employers treat possible candidates speaks volumes about how they will treat you once in the role ❌ Use a generic cover letter, personalisation is key ✅ Read our reviews, and understand the company culture and vibe before you apply Need more support with balancing placement hunting and your second year of university?
