David Abosch MBA, Callum Faulds and Neville Gunn at the Repair Cafe - part of the Tyseley Energy Park Community Day on 5th December. Callum didn't even have a chance to take his coat off before getting stuck into repairs. We were joined by learners from our computer/mobile repair course - this was their first experience of a repair cafe. Next one scheduled for the 4th Feb! Pauline Roche Neil Gentleman-Hobbs

Penultimate session today for the current cohort of ReCognition Circular CIC learners. Today's lesson showed us how some items are relatively easy to service, whist other pose a real challenge - some of these were really fiddly and time consuming! Tomorrow, these students will each go home with a laptop that they have repaired and upgraded themselves. They also go away with skills and the confidence to have a go at fixing items for themselves, for their families and potentially for an employer. Many of this cohort have other technical skills as well - one has recently completed a computer science degree at Aston Uni, others are about to complete an IT Support Engineer qualification. If your business needs people like this, who are enthusiastic, motivated and capable, feel free to get in touch. If you're interested in learning computer/mobile device repair, you can register your interest on our website - https://lnkd.in/eJZ5wBaS

Callum Faulds and David Abosch MBA speaking at the PURE Expo on Monday. The PURE project is a great initiative that helps people see their amazing talent and supports them to put their abilities to productive use. At ReCognition Circular CIC we believe that with enough motivation and enthusiasm, pretty much anyone can learn how to do basic (and maybe even advanced) computer repairs. This really broadens out the accessibility of digital and tech careers to a much more diverse range of individuals.

First session for a new cohort of people learning computer and mobile device repair with ReCognition Circular CIC at University of Birmingham's Birmingham Energy Innovation Centre on Tyseley Energy Park. The challenge: - Take apart a laptop - Remove the main components (keyboard, screen, palm rest, motherboard) - Put it back together again This was a tough task - we didn't give them any prior instruction or guidance. We just gave them the tools and the laptops and let them get on with it. Suffice to say, lessons were learned 🤓 (and screws were lost). Modern laptops aren't designed to be repaired, so working out how to open the case without damaging it, disassembling it and reassembling is a huge part of being able to repair things.
