Reminder: Submit your Self Assessment Tax Return ASAP! Self-Assessment Tax Returns must be completed annually and the deadline for submitting them online is usually 31st January following the end of the tax year (the tax year runs from 6th April to 5th April the following year). If you submit a Self Assessment Tax Return to HMRC each year, you may not be thinking about filling in all that heavy paperwork just yet. But there are a few benefits to completing and submitting your income details well before the deadline. For example: * You can find out what you owe in advance of the payment deadline; take advantage of any tax reliefs and avoid last-minute panic which could lead to penalty charges from HMRC * If you choose to file your tax return at the last minute, you may face a serious of issues which have the potential to cause stress and aggravation. If you become ill, misplace important information or experience any kind of disruption which may lead to you missing the payment deadline, you will receive a penalty from HMRC Our friendly team of experts make sure that Self-Assessment is hassle-free by completing and submitting your tax return for you. We calculate your tax liability, including advising on any potential tax savings and reliefs available and submit your completed and approved (by you) tax return to HMRC in a timely manner – ensuring that you avoid paying a fine for late filing. Scams warning as Self Assessment deadline looms HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) warns of scam attempts targeting Self Assessment customers. Customers urged to be cautious of refund scams as the 31 January tax return deadline draws closer. Concerned customers reported nearly 150,000 scam referrals to HMRC in the last year, as Self Assessment filers are warned to be alert to fraudsters. With millions of people due to complete their Self Assessment tax return and pay any tax owed by 31 January 2025, fraudsters are targeting people with offers of tax refunds or demanding payment of tax to get hold of personal information and banking details. Around half of all scam reports (71,832) in the last year were fake tax rebate claims: https://lnkd.in/eNh9E-Xg #HMRC #selfassessment #taxreturns #fraud #scams #finance

How to claim a tax refund If you believe you have overpaid tax to HMRC, you can typically claim a tax refund for the excess amount. The process for making a claim varies depending on factors such as whether you submit a self-assessment return and how much time has passed since the tax was overpaid. Reeves tells firms no more tax rises as she defends Budget Chancellor Rachel Reeves has told businesses she is "not coming back with more borrowing or more taxes" as she defended the tax rises on businesses announced in the Budget. Reeves told the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) conference that despite "a lot of feedback" on her tax and spending plans, she had not heard many alternatives. Her comments come after the boss of biscuit giant McVitie's warned it was "becoming harder to understand" the case for investing in the UK after the Chancellor's decisions. Reeves announced a near-£70bn increase in public spending in her first Budget last month, of which more than half will come from higher taxes: https://lnkd.in/e7SyWMQ7 #government #economy #autumnbudget #tax #chancellor #biz #CBI

UK inflation rises to 2.3% in October on higher energy costs UK inflation climbed to a six-month high in October, surpassing the Bank of England’s 2% target, driven primarily by increased household energy bills. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported that the annual Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose to 2.3% last month, up from 1.7% in September—the highest rate since April. This figure exceeded both economists’ forecasts of 2.2% and the Bank of England’s projection of 2.1%. The rise was widely anticipated following Ofgem’s decision to increase the energy price cap in October. The ONS noted that housing costs, reflecting higher gas and electricity prices, were the largest contributors to the inflation uptick. There were also smaller increases in transport, furniture costs, and restaurant prices. Conversely, the recreation and leisure sector saw declining inflation, making its smallest contribution to the price basket in two years: https://lnkd.in/eQQMBcVH #inflation #economy #ONS #finance #costofliving
