I was delighted to present author and professor of leadership Elisabeth Kelan with Chartered Management Institute’s social enterprise and innovation award for her outstanding book ‘Men Stepping Forward’ which is about how men can be change agents for gender equality in the workplace. It was an honour to have been asked to be one of six judges of a selection of super interesting business reads for the CMI’s Management Publication of the Year 2024. In the end Elisabeth Kelan’s book also emerged as the overall winner from this very competitive field. What did I like about ‘Men Stepping Forward’? It is short, well written and easy to read It is full of actionable advice for male colleagues and leaders in the workplace It sets out to make the workplace fairer, happier and better for everyone Yes, I liked the book and Elisabeth was a worthy winner. A huge thank you to Ann Francke OBE and the team at CMI for involving me in the process and for inviting me to the excellent awards and discussion at The British Library last night. It was inspiring! #lovemondays #lifeatreed #improvinglivesthroughwork #PhilCo #since1960 #inclusion #leadership #management #MPOTY

What sparks your creativity? This week, in a very special episode of ‘all about business’ marking our Founder’s 91st birthday, our Chairman and CEO James Reed CBE is joined by his father – entrepreneur, businessman and philanthropist, Sir Alec Reed. Sir Alec shares his thoughts on ideas, and how his drive for autonomy led to him starting Reed in 1960, from a small carpet shop in Hounslow. Twenty-five years later, he started the Reed Foundation. Is your benefits package costing the Earth, but employee retention is still down? Investing in your workforce doesn’t always have to be financial. We conducted a survey of 5,000 professionals at the end of 2024, in which we asked about their desired benefits. While salary remains the priority, professionals increasingly value the less tangible benefits – with work-life balance, appreciation, recognition and career progression opportunities placed at the top. Find out how best to attract and retain talent in 2025 with our latest salary guides. Have you ever caught someone out in a falsehood (intentional or not) on their CV? 🕵 Tell us what happened. Thank you to Tina Daheley at BBC Radio 2 for hosting our Chairman and CEO James Reed CBE today! #ReedScreening #CV #Employer #Hiring #HiringFraud
Great to talk to Tina Daheley at BBC Radio 2 about the hot topic of “inaccuracies” on CVs earlier today… At Reed Screening we check thousands of CVs for our clients every week. What do we find? 60% contain inaccuracies, which can sometimes be unintentional but… 20% contain deliberate/intentional misrepresentation. This is why it’s worth having your future colleagues screened. What form does the misrepresentation typically take? Here are some examples… Dates - to cover something up such as being unemployed or a period of employment that led to dismissal, or sometimes to exxagerate a length of time at a firm as a short period can lead to concerns. Job titles - sometimes to make it more externally relevant, sometimes to exaggerate their role at the company. Duties - exaggeration of duties to appear more experienced, senior or to better match job requirements. Qualifications - embellishing results or even fabricating entire qualifications. Is it an offence to lie on a CV? Under the Fraud Act 2006 making a false representation for personal gain or to cause loss to another can constitute fraud. This can lead to criminal prosecution, employment termination, damage to professional reputation and have an impact on future employment. Four good reasons why it’s best not to tell lies on our CV! #lovemondays #lifeatreed #improvinglivesthroughwork #screening #hiringfraud #CV #PhilCo #Since1960

The four-day working week has become an impossible dream for Brits, with many reporting that their workload is pushing them closer to working six days per week. As part of our annual salary guide research, we analysed more than 21 million job adverts and asked 5,000 UK workers a range of questions on their salary and work life, which found that over two-fifths (42%) of employees claim to work more than their contracted hours, completing an average of seven hours of overtime each week. This article explores the impact this is having on the UK workforce: https://bit.ly/3QjJOt5 #FourDayWeek #FutureOfWork #Employer #Overtime #SalaryGuide
