Episode four of ‘all about business’ is now available. This week, our Chairman and CEO James Reed CBE sits down with father-daughter duo Molly and Phillip King of Ireland’s family-run televised music festival, Other Voices. Starting in a tiny church in Dingle, it has grown to become a highly anticipated annual event. It’s hosted some of the biggest names in music, including Kate Tempest, Arlo Parks and Amy Winehouse and is now watched by millions across the globe. They explore the ins and outs of working with family, how to use digital media to build a brand and, despite massive growth, how they’ve managed to stay true to their original vision. Good to speak to Jeremy Vine at BBC Radio 2 about the current health of the UK labour market… Worryingly lots of callers to his show shared recent experiences of redundancy and reported that they were struggling to find alternative work despite multiple applications. The job market is certainly tough at the moment. One caller aged 49 said she used to receive calls from headhunters but now thought that employers had lost interest in her and felt that she had been “put out to pasture”. My advice “not to give up” did not do her justice… Ageism is ridiculous and wrong Policy makers should prioritise jobs and work People should not be left behind At Reed in Partnership where we have helped more than 300,000 people move from unemployment into work we know that the human cost of unemployment is huge. At the moment unemployment is moving in the wrong direction, it is rising. We have a duty as a society do all that we can to stop this! #lovemondays #lifeatreed #improvinglivesthroughwork #PhilCo #Since1960

Spoke to Andrew Marr about how more young young people might be encouraged, supported and if necessary cajoled off benefits and into work. [The last time I attempted to share these thoughts my post went pear shaped. Thank you to those who kindly pointed this out. Hopefully this finished as opposed to the earlier unfinished version will make more sense.] Here are my top five suggestions: 1. Market the many positives of work more actively and more widely so that people look beyond it being the negative part of “work life balance”. 2. Reintroduce young traineeships for 16-24 year olds to create a new employment pathway for those who do not attend university. 3. Reform the apprenticeship system (which has seen apprentice numbers decline significantly since it was last changed in 2017) to make it more employer friendly. 4. Reinstate the Kick Start scheme which worked so well during the pandemic to help young people who have had periods of unemployment move into work. 5. Reform the benefit system to incentivize looking for work over becoming inactive. It is not possible to build a wealthy and productive economy or to deliver high quality public services without a high labour force participation rate. At the moment in the UK, workforce participation is below 75%. This means that for every three working age adults who are in work, there is one who is not. An unsustainable situation if you are seeking to grow an economy and improve public services. And a very good reason why Britain urgently needs a workforce strategy! #LoveMondays #lifeatreed #improvinglivesthroughwork #PhilCo #Since1960

Recent research by insurance company Zurich shows three-in-10 neurodivergent people have faced discrimination in the job application process after disclosing their neurodivergence. It has since introduced measures to support neurodivergent employees including: - Removing subjective language and unnecessary qualifications from job descriptions - Offering all roles on a part-time or job-share basis - Assessing its recruitment processes with neurodiversity experts - Providing hiring managers and employees with neurodiversity training - Provide applicants with sensory maps of workplaces It's also widely recommended to share all interview details, including the questions, who will attend, the format/structure, in advance. Let us know your experience with neurodiversity in the hiring process in the comments and the poll below.
