Yesterday, we were pleased to be at a powerful exhibition in parliament organised by the APPG on Fair Banking, Fair By Design and The Poverty Alliance highlighting how the shutters can come down on access to lifeline affordable credit when people on low incomes lose their jobs, become full-time carers, get sick, have their fridge and washing machine break down. It was good to listen to MPs Lloyd Hatton and Navendu Mishra and Lib Dem Treasury Spokesperson Daisy Cooper talk about ending the poverty premium. We were lucky to be able to talk to some of the real people behind the stories and pictures too. In keeping with our mission to use #publicdataforpublic good, we hope that the information we have on monetary judgments can play a part.

Yesterday, the entire Registry Trust team came together for our Kickstart 2025 event at the Barbican Centre, which was an incredible opportunity to connect, collaborate, and align on our vision for the year ahead. The day was all about teamwork, strategy, and shared goals, ensuring we’re energised and ready for what’s to come. But it wasn’t all business - we wrapped up with an escape room challenge at Escape Arcade! From cracking codes to solving puzzles under pressure, it was a fantastic way to test our problem-solving skills and have some fun as a team. A huge shout-out to everyone who brought their enthusiasm, ideas, and energy to both the planning sessions and the escape room adventure. Here’s to another exciting and impactful year ahead.

Recent data from GfK - An NIQ Company highlights a concerning trend in the UK economy: consumer confidence has sharply declined, and more businesses are increasingly facing financial distress. GfK's consumer confidence index dropped five points to -22 in January, marking the lowest score in a year. This decline reflects growing consumer apprehension about economic conditions. Simultaneously, there's been a significant rise in debt judgments against incorporated businesses in England and Wales. In Q3 2024, such judgments more than doubled from 22,328 in Q3 2023 to 46,226. While the total value of these debts increased by 24%, the average debt value decreased by 40%, suggesting a surge in the number of smaller debt cases. These developments underscore the challenges businesses face amid declining consumer spending and increasing financial obligations. It's crucial for companies to monitor these trends and implement strategies to navigate the evolving economic landscape.
