Brace yourself for yet another shocking waste headline - Brits are set to chuck away £1.2bn worth of unwanted Christmas gifts this January, according to Depop research. 😲 Just as we thought the wasteful season was coming to end! #Depop found that the leading reason why people chuck their presents away is because they don't suit their taste. We get it - not everyone is thrilled by a pair of novelty socks, but there are much better, planet-friendly ways to get rid of that unwanted gift. 📱 Sell it! There are so many resale platforms now available, where anyone can sell anything from a beanbag to a beanie. Don't have the time to list and post individual items? Check out our circular community member Thrift+ - send them your unwanted clothes in a pre-paid bag and they'll sort the rest for you. 🔄 Swap it! We're huge advocates for swaps. Clothes swaps, toy swaps, book swaps - you name it, we'll swap it! Our sustainable fashion campaign #LoveNotLandfill is hosting a clothes swap with LOANHOOD on 25th January in Southwark. Come join us and swap your unwanted clothes for new pieces you'll love. Get full details here: https://zurl.co/1hPsz 🎁 Regift it! We've seen a shift in attitudes in regifting - no longer seen as a offensive, but rather the sensible choice to reduce waste and pass on stuff to people who will love and cherish it. It just makes sense! #sustainablefashion #lowwaste #lowwastechristmas #christmaswaste #clothesswap #circulareconomy #zerowasteeconomy

📃 Quick survey for London repair businesses – win an IKEA voucher! Are you London-based repair business or do you have any in your network? We want to hear from London's repairers to help inform a study on a potential repair voucher scheme. 🛠️🧵 Similar schemes in cities like Vienna and Amsterdam have helped to boost repair rates and increased demand for local services - we'd love to see the same happen in London! To help us better understand how a voucher scheme could work in London, please share the survey linked below with London-based businesses that are repairing anything from kettles to bikes, trousers to laptops and more. By completing the survey, respondents have the chance to win a £50 or £25 IKEA Voucher, courtesy of London Councils' One World Living Programme. 🔗 Take the survey here: https://lnkd.in/erDj2gQS #repair #london #repairvoucher #zerowasteeconomy #circulareconomy

This holiday season, don't forget real Christmas trees can be recycled! Most councils in London will either collect your tree as part of your usual bin collection, or set up drop-off points. The trees will either be recycled and shredded into chippings, or composted, for use in local parks and green spaces. Check your local council's website for details on collection services and visit #LondonRecycles website for advice and handy tips on #festive#sustainability https://zurl.co/EjG5 #christmastree #recycling

We also introduced Tree Brothers (@treebrothers.ltd - Instagram) from our circular business community ♻️ Their CEO, Hugo Knox, highlighted the number of Christmas trees that binned after Christmas, and how they're helping to put them to good use through reuse and recycling. Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without the mince pies, roast potatoes, Christmas pudding and of course... sprouts! But all that food comes at a cost, and a LOT ends up going to waste. The average UK household spends an extra £100 on food at Christmas, of which at least £16 ends up in the bin! This amounts to a total of £444 million worth of food waste over the festive period. https://zurl.co/MAth1 To help Londoners reduce food waste and save money this festive season, we're sharing our top tips via our #LondonRecycles and #EatLikeaLondoner campaigns. Check out our guide to low waste Christmas food below 👇 🎄 For more low waste tips, check out our 'Waste less this Christmas' page on the London Recycles site: https://zurl.co/2j6w7 😋 And find lots of tasty ways to reinvent Christmas leftovers on the Eat Like a Londoner site: https://zurl.co/yDzwH #christmas #christmaswaste #sustainablechristmas #wastereduction #zerowasteeconomy #circulareconomy #circularity #foodwaste
