The renewed #Trump presidency will be an inflection point and transformational catalyst for #biotech, #pharma, and #healthcare. It will imo exceed in scale the impact ChatGPT/AI has on the tech industry. It will allow drug developers to think big and bold again - to target not only incremental change but find cures for some of the worst diseases - or ideally help patients to stay healthy in the first place. I had envisaged this scenario in my post about human enhancement earlier this year. In their last term, the Democrats raised awareness of bodily autonomy mostly for the trans community (which was a very important step imo). The Republicans will bring that autonomy to every single one of us. Why be “just so so” when you can be fully, deeply happy?! Why just “average” when you can boost your IQ?! Why just “normal” when you can be physically ripped with peak fitness?! The world is your oyster. Go for your dreams. https://lnkd.in/exFcf_cK

Synchron is 5 years into clinical trials implanting chips in people's brains. The technical term for these brain chips is brain-computer interface or BCI. At #FortuneGlobalForum Synchron CEO Thomas Oxley said the tech is currently being used to address paralysis. "The initial application for this technology is in the need for people who have paralysis. We anticipate this is going to be a very large area of medical device that has not yet been addressed," he said. "There's a prediction that this first-generation health care term is going to be in the range of $400 billion." So far, "the problem with open brain surgery is that none has scaled up," he added. But the company has plans to address that. More: https://lnkd.in/eRty7RrA

"The best way to predict the future is to create it." - Abraham Lincoln I am so happy to have found a likeminded true creator mindset in Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether. We have proudly joined forces to propel Blackrock Neurotech, the leading global pioneer for BCI technology, to the next level. As you know, Apeiron Investment Group focuses on four themes: Biotech, Crypto, FutureTech, + Experiences, Hospitality & Happiness. Within our biotech division we focus on #mentalhealth and all things related to the brain and #longevity. Reason for this is that there are just a few shared objectives ALL human beings truly have in common: We ALL want to be happy & healthy, and once we’re able to achieve that, then we ALL want to enjoy this amazing life for as long as possible. Through our focus on the brain, we have pioneered near-term solutions such as the renaissance of #psychedelics as powerful treatments for various mental health issues, as well as cutting-edge novelties like brain-computer interfaces (BCI). Tether has recently made a strategic investment of US$200 million into Apeiron’s portfolio company Blackrock Neurotech, the leading global pioneer for BCI technology. Founded in 2008 out of the University of Utah by scientists and BCI pioneers Dr. Florian Solzbacher + Marcus Gerhardt, and backed by Apeiron’s brain-focused venture fund re.Mind Capital since 2021, Blackrock has quickly emerged as THE world’s technology leader in the neuroscience, neural engineering, and neural prosthetics space. Blackrock Neurotech’s mission is to help the millions of people around the world afflicted with paralysis, lost function and neurological disorders that prevent them from walking, seeing, hearing, feeling, or talking. Through their innovative brain interface technology, patients have operated robotic arms, maneuvered wheelchairs, sent messages, surfed the web, and even driven a car – all with just the power of their thoughts. Tether’s US$200 million investment will primarily fund the commercialization and roll-out of Blackrock Neurotech’s innovative medical solutions that have already been successfully applied to more than 40 individuals – more than any other BCI company has ever treated. I am especially happy that Tether shares my positive and optimistic view on the broader future of Human Enhancement. Blackrock Neurotech is one of the few companies which can truly change the world, and having a strong, reliable, and passionate partner like Tether makes a real difference. Synchron in Fast Company’s top business headlines: 🔥🔥🚀 Musk’s Neuralink rival to launch brain implant trials: A rival to Elon Musk’s Neuralink brain implant startup, Synchron, is preparing to recruit patients for a large-scale clinical trial which is required for the company to seek commercial approval for its device. Synchron is currently farther along in the process of testing its brain implant than Neuralink and launched an online registry on Monday for patients interested in joining the trial. Our Senior Director of Advanced Technologies Gil Rind speaks with The Guardian about #BCI. “Synchron started at the University of Melbourne and is now also based in New York. It uses a mesh inserted into the brain’s blood vessels that allows patients to use the internet, sending a signal that operates a bit like Bluetooth. People can shop online, email and communicate using the technology to control a computer. Synchron has implanted the mesh in a number of patients and is monitoring them, including one in Australia. Patient P4, who has motor neurone disease, has the mesh implanted a few years ago. “I believe he’s had over 200 sessions,” Gil Rind, Synchron’s senior director of advanced technology, says. “He is still going strong with the implants and has been working very closely with us.
