We are a regional & national multi-award winning registered charity specialising in dementia care.
About us
Reminiscence Learning was created and founded by Fiona Mahoney an Occupational Therapist (OT) who has experience in both physical and mental health. She has worked in the NHS and set up her own medical equipment company “The Making Life Easier Centre” in 1985. As a qualified reflexologist, Bach flower practitioner and OT she ran her own private business, linking in with the medical centres and the Nuffield hospital. Whilst working for the Somerset Partnership NHS Mental Health Trust in the mid-90s, Fiona set up the Penny Farthing Reminiscence Centre in Wellington, Somerset and it was here that the embryo of an idea was born to train both staff and the general public in how to run reminiscence sessions. In 2001 Fiona set up Reminiscence Learning and it became a registered charity in 2003. The charity has changed and developed over the years. It is now a National and Regional multi-award winning registered charity. We pride ourselves in being a dynamic, forward thinking and innovative charity who put the needs of the client and carer first and listen to their thoughts and requests. Reminiscence Learning runs the following sessions and courses • Respite Activity Sessions (RAS) With the overall aim of supporting carers and those they care for including those with memory problems and dementia • Archie Intergenerational Dementia Awareness Project Linking primary schools with care homes and the community • Training Workshops For health care professionals, family carers, volunteers, businesses, and the general public. • Carer Support Groups Supporting family carers in the community • Community Activity Sessions Including Funday Friday • Activity Angel Sessions Tailor made activities for residents within care home settings

Supporting people to get fun and enjoyment from life whilst living with Dementia is what we do best. Our Together in Sport sessions for people with dementia and their carers held every Monday 10am at Somerset Cricket Ground run with Somerset Cricket Foundation. As you can see from the photos we do a wide range of activities and weather permitting a walk about the cricket ground. The theme is always around sport and activity. It is also a great way to build friendships and enjoy a nice cuppa! You can just turn up at 10am on a Monday at Somerset Cricket Ground in Taunton but if you want more information do give us a call. We are always happy to help. A big thanks to Somerset Cricket Foundation for your help facilitating these sessions.

💜 Today is 'Random Acts of Kindness Day' 💜 Living with dementia can be challenging, not just for those diagnosed but also for their families and caregivers. A little kindness can make a world of difference. 🌍 Here are some 'Random Acts of Kindness' you can do to bring a smile to someone’s day: 🤗 Offer Companionship – Loneliness is common. Spend time chatting, sharing a cup of tea, or simply being present. Your company is a gift. 🎨 Create Joyful Moments – Bring a favourite song, photo album, or art supplies. Engaging the senses can spark memories and uplift spirits. 🛒 Lend a Helping Hand – Offer to run errands, cook a meal, or help with housework. ✨ Small gestures can have a huge impact. Let’s make the world a kinder place for those living with dementia. What can you add to this list? 💜 #DementiaAwareness #RandomActsOfKindness #SupportAndCare #MakeADifference #KindnessMatters #MakeADifference

The 25th January is Burns Night which is a celebration of the Scottish poet Robert Burns. Our RAS Theme for this week is therefore all things Scottish. We have been discussing Scottish traditions and food and reminiscing about holidays to the area. And no Scottish celebration would be complete without some tartan hats! It has been great fun and our clients have loved taking part in the activities. #dementiasupport #dementiacare #wellington
