This Monday, our Northern team made a difference. 🐾 They rolled up their sleeves to support Leicester Animal Aid - a charity dedicated to caring for animals who’ve faced challenging times. From painting the reception hall and education centre to putting up fresh new signage, it was an honour to help create a more welcoming space for their team, visitors, and the animals they care for. It wasn’t all work though. The team were lucky enough to meet some of their adorable residents and bring along a care package filled with food, treats, beds, and toys to help make their stay a little more comfortable. Leicester Animal Aid provides a haven for over 300 cats and dogs each year, giving those who are lost, abandoned, or whose owners can no longer care for them a second chance at happiness. Their work is incredible and we’re grateful to have played a small part in supporting their mission. Today, on International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, we’re reflecting on the scale of this issue and the role we can all play in addressing it. According to the World Health Organization, 1 in 3 women globally experience violence, with most cases involving intimate partners. This crisis affects physical health, mental well-being, and lives. We are committed to being part of the solution - through the power of safe spaces. That’s why we provide temporary accommodation for those in vulnerable positions. This includes women fleeing domestic violence. Working closely with councils, we aim to offer a safe place and a crucial stepping stone towards stability and recovery for survivors. However, prevention, support services, and advocacy are also essential pieces of the puzzle. Our duty of care extends to lives, big and small. 🐾 During a routine checkout inspection, one of our team members recently discovered a lovely tuxedo cat left behind in one of our properties. It’s heartbreaking, but sadly, this is a scenario we encounter more often than we’d like. Without hesitation, our inspector ensured the cat had food, water, and a comforting presence while we contacted the RSPCA to provide the professional care and shelter they deserve. This is another reminder of how important care and compassion are in what we do. We’re committed to looking out for everyone who crosses our path - whether they’re landlords, occupiers, local authorities or our furry friends in need. More than 75 million lives have been lost as a result of war and conflict since the start of WWI. Remembrance Day is a time of great significance to reflect on this. Yesterday we came together and paused for 2 minutes. In this moment we reflected to honour those who served, fought, and sacrificed for a more hopeful world. We remember: The sacrifice of the Armed Forces community. The special contribution of families and the emergency services. Those who have lost their lives as a result of war and conflict. We stood united across backgrounds and beliefs to honour their memory with a wish for a peaceful future. Lest we forget. #RemembranceDay #LestWeForget

Shelter’s right - love is not enough. → It’s not enough to prevent homelessness. → It’s not enough to prevent people from sleeping rough. → It’s not enough to prevent families from living in damp, cold and cramped conditions. However, the right mix of dedication, strategy, understanding and support can be. It’s the exact mix that ensures each temporary accommodation we offer is quality, secure, safe and tailored to our occupiers.
