Social tourism initiative for unpaid carers in partnership with organisations in the tourism industry
About us
Being an unpaid carer can have positive and rewarding aspects, but it can also be isolating as well as physically and mentally exhausting. For many reasons, including financial pressures, care concerns and limited time, it is often difficult for carers to take the time out to fully recharge, or to spend quality time with their loved ones. But one unique project in Scotland is making carers’ day by bringing together our vibrant hospitality tourism and leisure industry, with organisations that work to support carers. It’s called Respitality. Respitality is a fun and energising short breaks option for unpaid carers in Scotland. They are supported by trusted local carer organisations who help to match them with the breaks that met their individual needs. A short break from routine with Respitality can be anything! It could be reconnecting with a hobby, going to a visitor attraction, enjoying a meal out in a restaurant or even an overnight stay. No matter what the break is, it provides unpaid carers a chance to recharge, which is vital for their mental and physical wellbeing. Respitality is coordinated by Shared Care Scotland, and supported by Scottish Government.

Santa brought us an early Christmas present, wrapped up in the shape of three local authority areas that will launch Respitality in January 2025! We have received a triple whammy, as Inverclyde, North Ayrshire & South Ayrshire all join the Respitality network to provide short, fun breaks through partnerships within the tourism industry. To find out more about how you can access Respitality in your local area, check out our Carers Info page 👉 https://lnkd.in/eyuzb28W Unity Enterprise

A visit to the Kimono Exhibition coupled with a wee cake and cuppa at Tatha Bar and Kitchen at V&A Dundee is the perfect combo! We are delighted to be working with the V&A and Heritage Portfolio to offer these break opportunities to unpaid carers. "V&A Dundee and Heritage Portfolio are delighted to support Respitality this year. We are honoured to have the opportunity to offer a well-deserved break to carers as a thank you for the vital care they give family members, friends, and neighbours. Our contribution invites Dundee carers to explore the museum’s galleries and exhibitions and take time to relax over coffee and cake overlooking the River Tay. We look forward to welcoming these local heroes into V&A Dundee." Amy Jones (V&A Communities Producer) and Alexis Wilkins (Heritage Portfolio Sales Executive) If you are a local hospitality/leisure provider and would be interested in finding out how you can become a Respitality partner please get in touch with our Short Breaks Team on 01382 400422 or email shortbreaks@dundeecarerscentre.org.uk. Pamper breaks 💆Read more below to hear carer feedback on a recent Respitality break. "I had a massage with Reset Well-being Therapies. Before my break I felt tense, and afterwards I felt less stressed, more energised and that my batteries had been recharged! What I enjoyed most about my break was time out for me and total relaxation and peace. The lady was very professional and made me feel very comfortable." Thanks to Reset Wellbeing therapies. We love hearing feedback from Respitality donors, see below for recent feedback from a new Respitality donor, Annfield House who donated an overnight break in self catering accommodation. ‘It is just good to feel that offering a break to someone who really needs it can make such a difference and it's good knowing this is possible because care is organised so the carer can relax when they are with us.’ Calling all leisure, tourism and hospitality businesses! Think you could offer a break for an unpaid carer or support Respitality in another way, get in touch or see more information here 👉 https://lnkd.in/dgeuhqWG #respitality #makeacarersday

World Kindness Day reminds us of the positive impact we can have on people, communities and the world through gratitude and expression! We have received so much kindness in our 9 years of operating Respitality, and we wouldn't have been able to support as many people without it. Thank you to everyone who has part of this journey so far. Why not perform an act of kindness today and donate to Respitality? Here's how 👉 https://lnkd.in/eMUdZDS2
