How do you solve an age-old problem in women's sport...creating a bra that reduces breast movement, without relying on uncomfortable compression ? Signalling a new era in hi-tech sports bras, new research led by Professor Joanna Wakefield-Scurr and the team at Progressive Sports Technologies has shown that sports bras featuring RHEON™ technology reduce breast movement by an additional 15% compared to a conventional sports bra. Key Findings: -RHEON™ technology provides 15% more movement control during exercise than a conventional sport bra -Increases support level from ‘Medium’ to ‘High’ without added compression -Improves motion control during dynamic transitions, such as walking to running Dr Isabell Sarah Karmel, Chief Science Officer at RHEON LABS, explains: “Our goal is to develop technology that works with the body, not against it. Created to improve comfort and safety in padel, introducing the Anti-Vibration collection with Macron. We worked with Italian sports brand Macron on their 2025 Padel Racket Collection, for the first time adding RHEON™ Anti-Vibration technology into rackets. The inclusion of RHEON™’s ultra-high shock absorbing qualities effectively manages unwanted vibrations. This reduces vibrational peaks, quickly dissipating vibrational energy. The addition of RHEON™ in the carbon fibre racket handle allows significant reduction of the vibrations transmitted to the player’s hand and arm, improving comfort and, above all, safety during play. This need for protection is due to the increasing incidence among padel players of injuries linked to the repeated and prolonged exposure of wrist and elbow ligaments to the vibrations caused by the hits, namely epicondylitis and epitrochleitis. Tests carried out by the University of Bologna on the new rackets showed that the inclusion of RHEON™ led to a 23% reduction in the intensity of vibrations transmitted to the player and a 30% faster damping of vibrations compared to ordinary rackets. This innovation represents the perfect combination of high performance and player protection. The rackets feature Constrained-Layer Damping (CLD) technology, a system of ultra-thin layers that alternate between RHEON™ and carbon fibre. This technology maintains the racket’s lightness and manoeuvrability but brings enormous benefits in terms of vibration absorption. At RHEON, we’ve spent the past few years pioneering the field of dynamic support in sportswear. First, as thin films applied to athletic garments, where we have seen impressive results with adidas across their Adizero and Techfit ranges, using RHEON™ technology to control muscle and tissue movement and absorb energy, without increasing compression. Now, we’re working on our next breakthrough - RHEON™ fibre. This innovative fibre directly replaces traditional elastane yarns, making it possible to integrate dynamic support into virtually any clothing category. Unlike conventional yarns that provide a single, unchanging level of stiffness, RHEON™ fibres offer 200–400% more stiffening than elastane and dissipate 30–50% of stretch energy depending on grade and strain rate. Testing has shown that textiles woven with RHEON™ fibres provide dynamic support and dampening, with stiffness and energy dissipation increasing as strain rates rise. For athletes, this means their kit will adapt dynamically to their movements, enhancing both comfort and performance. 2024 brought some great recognition and validation of how RHEON LABS technology can be used to boost both performance and protection across a range of sport categories. Our impact protection technology helped our headwear partners to execute award-winning product launches… We collaborated with UK-based start-up VENTETE on the aH-1, an inflatable and micro-collapsible bicycle helmet, utilising RHEON™ to revolutionise impact protection. The aH-1 was awarded: · ISPO Award for the Bike/Commuting category. · Red Dot Awards for ‘Best of the Best’ in Cycling, going on to win the prestigious Red Dot Luminary Award. · Design Intelligence Award – Life Wisdom Gold Award. We continued our relationship with respected helmet experts Ruroc on the RG2 Snow Helmet, which was also awarded an ISPO Award in the Snowsports category. RHEON™ pods within the RG2 provide both linear and rotational impact protection, dynamically adapting to different impact scenarios, reducing the risk of head injuries. Our Reactivewear technology helped adidas athletes to achieve numerous wins and records throughout the year, all wearing the adidas Adizero Control x RHEON™ Techfit shorts: · Alexander Munyao won the 2024 Men's London Marathon. · Emmanuel Wanyonyi set a history-making men's world record in the 2024 adidas Road to Record. · Yomif Kejelcha broke the half marathon world record in Valencia. Ruroc x RHEON™ The RG2 full-face snowsports helmet. We worked with UK helmet innovators Ruroc in their development of the RG2 - a helmet designed for real-life impacts and a move-on from their RG1 model. Utilising our algorithmic design techniques and state-of-the-art test facilities, we engineered unique RHEON™ structured pods to behave like reactive suspension beneath the shell. This development offers advanced rotational and linear impact protection that dynamically adapts to different impact scenarios, significantly reducing the risk of head injury. Historically, helmet testing focused on linear impact, not taking into account the rotational impact which is a common contributing factor in head injuries. We went above and beyond existing ski certification standards by looking at linear and rotational energy across both low and high energy impacts. The dynamic and strain-rate sensitive qualities of RHEON™ means it remains soft at low energies - absorbing slight knocks and hits, stiffening up to absorb high-energy impacts in the event of a big fall or collision. VENTETE x RHEON™ Last week our team supported Ventete at the London Design Festival launch pop-up for their aH-1 helmet. The ‘Take a Deep Breath’ exhibit showcased the impressive design and development story behind the innovative helmet system. Team RHEON™ were on hand to chat to visitors about the inclusion of RHEON™ within the helmets internal padding - using our non-Newtonian polymer to enhance rotational impact protection - and designed for maximum air flow, aiding comfort and coolness.
