According to the Rider Levett Bucknall RLB 4th Quarter 2024 Construction Market Update for Australia, the Australian construction industry faces a complex and challenging landscape as we approach 2025, with economic, logistical, and labour-related hurdles impacting growth. Ewen McDonald, Director of RLB Oceania Research & Development said, “While the Australian economy is projected to grow by 2.1% in 2025, up from 1.2% in 2024 (driven by a recovery in consumer spending and strong government expenditure), the construction sector is grappling with significant issues.” He added, “Skilled labour shortages are a significant concern, driving up wage costs and creating intense competition for available workers in addition to many key challenges moving forward.” Read RLB's analysis ▸ https://lnkd.in/gtJ34x2s

According to RLB's latest Infrastructure Forecast report, infrastructure construction in New Zealand has picked up over the past year, driven by strong population growth. RLB Director Ed Cook notes an easing in capacity pressures across the construction sector, contributing to slowing cost inflation. Lower material prices and steady global steel production are helping alleviate cost pressures in civil construction. According to the Rider Levett Bucknall RLB Forecast 110 report – New Zealand Trends in Property and Construction – the outlook for construction remains weak for the coming year, but there are signs of a pick-up in demand beyond 2025. RLB’s Forecast 110 noted that near-term construction demand is soft. Construction activity fell slightly in the June 2024 quarter, reflecting a small decline in both residential and non-residential construction. Key points in this issue: ▪ Building activity mixed across regions but Auckland still the main driver ▪ Decline in building consents for education but strong demand for office developments ▪ Waikato and Otago lead weakness in non-residential construction demand ▪ Growth in non-residential building consents in Wellington and Auckland ▪ Construction cost inflation set to ease in the new year Read RLB's analysis ▸ https://lnkd.in/ggxR-gCt
