The Avon RDA Group will be featured on ITV News West Country at 6pm tonight on ITV1, highlighting the vital work they do to support riders of all abilities through life-changing equestrian activities! Opened in 1984 by our president, HRH The Princess Royal, Avon RDA has been a beacon of inclusion and empowerment for 40 years, providing ridden and non-ridden activities that improve mental health, build confidence, and transform lives. Like many Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) groups across the UK, Avon RDA relies entirely on fundraising to continue its essential services. The ITV feature sheds light on the increasing financial pressures these groups face, despite the growing demand for their services. Enriching lives through horses
About us
RDA is a UK based national charity that provides opportunities for people with disabilities to get meaningful and lasting therapy and health benefits from riding and carriage driving. A key part of the work is also to recognise and celebrate the achievenent of the participants and this lead to success from small steps forweard to going all the way to winning a Paralympic Gold medal. We work through a network of 500 centres acorss the UK and rely on the input of volunteers at all of these centres. Over 30,000 people of all ages currently benefit from the activity, but we know that for each of these people there are about another 4 people on a waiting list. We are desperately trying to change this and although we have expanded by a third since 2009, we need more suppport and more volunteers to make this change. We need volunteers of all backgrounds and with a variety of skills - not only those with experience of horses. Whatever you do, we'll provide all the training and suppport you need. If you want to talk through some of the options, get in touch. Go on! Get involved and help make a massive change to someone's life.

Putting this out to the RDA network - could you add your voice and experience to the ParalympicsGB Lived Experience Advisory Board (LAB) and help shape programme decisions? The LAB gives a voice to those with lived experience of disability, supporting ParalympicsGB’s commitment to co-production. They are seeking diverse perspectives from across the disabled community to guide meaningful change in sport and physical activity. This is a paid opportunity requiring around 10hrs a month, and they are looking for diverse representation and voices. The closing date is 20th January so follow the links below if you are interested and get in touch.
Could you be a voice for change on our Lived Experience Advisory Board? The "LAB" plays a fundamental role in supporting ParalympicsGB’s social impact objectives, directly contributing to our vision to “Through sport, inspire a better world for disabled people.” This is more than advisory; it’s about co-production and collaboration with a friendly, down-to-earth team. You’ll actively help shape programme decisions, sharing your insight across workstreams like Every Body Moves, Get Set, Equal Play and Beyond the Podium ensuring our initiatives truly reflect the needs and aspirations of the disabled community. On this International Day of Disabled People, new figures from Activity Alliance show disabled people taking part in even light activity could make a huge difference in social value. We're proud to support Activity Alliance's new vision for a future where all disabled people feel they belong in sports and activities. https://lnkd.in/dz2sfVr #WeAllBelong
We all belong. Today, on the International Day of Disabled People, we are very excited to share with you our bold new strategy. It presents an ambitious vision for the future where all disabled people feel they belong in sports and activities. Alongside our strategy we share new research revealing the incredible social value in disabled people being active – £6,200 per person per year if supported to meet the Chief Medical Officer’s guidelines of 150 plus minutes of exercise per week. The figures show that helping disabled people to take part in even light activity could make a huge difference. Our new strategy sets three ambitions that we know must drive change: - Sports and activities meet disabled people’s needs - Disabled people influence campaigning, policy and decision making - Address inequalities by working with others In our strategy, Activity Alliance Honorary President Tanni Grey-Thompson, writes: “We all belong in sports and activities. Yet many disabled children and adults don’t feel that they do. At school, in the local park or working out in a nearby gym, we all have the right to welcoming, inclusive, and accessible opportunities. “The reality is that society remains an unfair and unjust place for many disabled people. Every single day there are stories up and down our country of disabled children and adults missing out on the joy that being active can bring. We must not accept this.” Please take five minutes to learn more about our strategy and social value report here: https://lnkd.in/eVNftZdC
