Bringing Nature Indoors: The beauty and benefits of biophilic design Biophilia is a design philosophy introduced to us by Edward O. Wilson in his 1984 book “Biophilia”. It suggests that humans have an inherent bond with nature and an instinctive desire to be close to and interact with other living organisms. Biophilia is not just about enjoying nature, it encompasses a broader idea that our well-being and mental health are influenced by our access to, and interaction with, natural environments. At its core, biophilic design is about bringing elements of nature into indoor spaces, whether using natural materials, greenery, or even the incorporation of natural light and views. From the very first year, we were awarded a Certificate of Excellence, a standard we proudly maintained throughout the entire project. This recognition reflects our unwavering commitment to exceptional standards in site presentation, safety, and sustainability, setting new benchmarks within the scheme. Beginning in 2018, our goal was to uphold the highest standards expected by the CCS. Over the course of the project, we implemented an exemplary site management strategy, ensuring both the site and surrounding areas were consistently clean, tidy, and professionally presented. Our adoption of the Scheme’s First Impressions Standards contributed to creating a welcoming environment. We also enhanced site security with the installation of a comprehensive CCTV system. This prestigious recognition celebrates the team’s hard work, commitment, and collaboration to bring this one-of-a-kind property to life. Studio Director of Interior Design, James Ashfield, reflected on the award, sharing, “To stand on stage with the team to collect this award was a very special moment—true recognition not only for all six departments of Rigby & Rigby but for all consultants and suppliers who dedicated themselves to the project. This project was more than five years in the making.
