  • We had a brilliant day yesterday with the Tyrer Ecological Consultants team, talking all things detection dogs, with some really interesting discussions around their applications, and of course showcasing some of our dogs amazing skills! A fantastic company and such a friendly team, who we are looking forward to continuing to work with.

Ecological excellence for over 30 years

After working with Rachel Cripps - RM Conservation and Lucy Wilde - Wilde Ecology Dogs for a couple of years we were fully aware of the great work they do with their entourage of four legged colleagues! However, it was great to be invited to hear more about the work they undertake and see first hand the fantastic demonstrations showing how efficient and skilled these dogs are at finding their target species with limited disturbance to any other wildlife or habitats. We look forward to working with you further and getting the dogs involved in projects where I'm sure they will be a very valuable resource to improving search and detection for protected species ☺️

  • We had a fantastic time with Conservation Detection Dogs NI earlier this month. It has been a busy few weeks, travelling to sites in Scotland and Northern Ireland and it's looking like September is going to be just as busy!

⭐⭐ We've also got a team working in the Co. Fermanagh, Armagh and Down. ⭐⭐ We have properly covered all the counties in NI this year! We wouldn't have been able to do it without bringing in some of our fantastic contractors. One of which is Rachel Cripps from RM Conservation . Rachel and her band of dogs travelled over after completing their turbines in Scotland this summer to help us out at some of our sites. We are extremely lucky to have incredibly talented teams we can call upon to help us out when we have too much work for our own core team. This means we aren't pushing our dogs too hard, they can get the proper rest needed, and our clients know we won't let them down when they need their sites covered during specific seasons. All contractors we bring in have either trained with us or shadowed us, and have been assessed by us to make sure they meet our standards. This team always passes with flying colours 😁

  • We had a great day today at Lancashire Wildlife Trust Lunt Meadows Nature Reserve bioblitz. Lunt meadows is a fantastic reserve which in such a short space of time has come to support a huge diversity of wildlife. There were lots of records submitted today and they are still being counted by Merseyside BioBank. We can't wait to hear the results! We were there chatting about detection dogs as a survey tool. Max and Reid took it in turns to man the stall 😆 Thanks to everyone who took the time to chat to us! #bioblitz #detectiondogs #conservation #luntmeadows

  • It can be tricky to balance fitting in CPD, especially during a busy field season. But some opportunities just can't be missed!

Fantastic 2 day workshop with Paul Bunker PMP from Chiron K9 LLC on training protocols for detecting buried hides, hosted by Kat Janczur from Canine Detection Solutions. I am always grateful to trainers and handlers who are willing to share their knowledge and experiences with others. Definitely lots to think about now in terms of my own training protocols. It was a great couple of days at an incredible venue! #detectiondogs #training #dogtraining #cpd

Yesterday I had the privilege of representing the Ecology Detection Dog Britain & Ireland Working Group at a Natural Resources Wales event. We discussed all things licensing, guidance and applications of detection dogs. NRW staff and some external organisations, came to see the dogs in action and hear more about various projects, from mosses to Great Crested Newts. It was a pleasure working with my fellow Working Group board members Caroline Finlay and Holly Peek. Thank you to everyone who made it such an enjoyable day! #conservation #conservationdogs #detectiondogs #protectedspecies #research #collaboration

  • The theme of this week is definitely newts! Yesterday we released the captive great crested newts we have been holding for the purposes of detection dog training, as per our Natural England licence. Thank you to Katherine (Katie) Beale for managing the licensing, and Kevin Palmer from University of Chester and University Centre Reaseheath who we are looking forward to continuing to work with over the coming year. Today we have been on site with Steph and Martin Cooling-Green from Seeker Ecology assisting with #GCN surveys. Both days have provided great opportunities for additional training on site in more technical habitats, exposure to unknown newts, as well as discrimination training. The weather conditions also presented some challenges with changes in temperature and humidity. But Max as usual worked his paws off and had some fantastic finds. #detection #surveys #newts #license

Slightly belated International Women's Day celebration but quite fittingly we were busy training with some of the other amazing women working in the field of conservation detection dogs. There are many amazing women making a difference in the fields of conservation and dog training, who are passionate about protecting our natural world, freely sharing their knowledge and experience and being a source of inspiration and support. Thank you to those who have supported and mentored me. You know who you are! #internationalwomensday #internationalwomensday2024
