These energy-efficient single variable speed pumps from RMI Pressure Systems arrived recently at a mine in China, allowing significant savings in power consumption. When comparing the energy consumed by the full fixed speed pumps with that consumed by the full VFD pumps, an energy cost saving of over 20% was revealed. This savings can be reflected annually and over 15 years, reflecting the typical life span of an RMI pump. Over a single year, a savings of almost ¥1.5 million (over US$205,000) would result from upgrading from a full fixed speed to a full VFD system, while over 15 years, this would amount to over ¥22 million (over US$3 million).

RMI Pressure Systems has demonstrated the potential of variable frequency drives (VFD) control technology for reducing energy costs and carbon footprint in mines. The company conducted a comparison of three emulsion pump sets in two mines in Shaanxi, China. Upgrading from full fixed-speed to either a single VFD or a full VFD system delivered valuable energy savings (10% to 20%). The study used data from each mine's SCADA system to calculate the on-load and off-load times of four RMI emulsion pumps at each underground mine site, as well as the times when the pumps were not operating. The pump systems deliver hydraulic fluid power to critical mine roof support infrastructure. Average power consumption for each pump was calculated, across 15 days. RMI’s Quinmax S500 pump provides a safe and reliable supply of high-pressure water-based fluids for mining and heavy industrial applications. With energy efficiencies of up to 95%, reciprocating pumps from RMI Pressure Systems, such as this three-pump system with S-Series Quinmax pumps, deliver considerable savings for steel plant descaling operations.
