About us

We’re one of the largest family-owned construction, infrastructure and support services businesses in the UK, and we apply the same principles to every aspect of our business today that we did over fifty years ago when Bill Robertson began with his joinery firm in Elgin. Over the years our sustainable growth has enabled us to invest in our business, the future of people and communities, and to deliver on major projects, housing schemes and facilities management for customers nationally. We have the ability to accept big challenges, and build positive, mutually beneficial partner relationships. At the same time we think locally, working with stakeholders and the supply chain to deliver services and infrastructure that will stand the test of time. Today we employ over 3,200 talented people across a broad range of roles including construction, timber engineering, facilities management, capital projects, property development, regeneration, civil engineering, building services and housebuilding. Ultimately, our approach is about making progress safely towards a sustainable future. It’s the Robertson Way. #WeAreTeamRobertson

  • We’ve been designing, manufacturing and erecting precision engineered quality timber frame structures for over 35 years and have just hit a major milestone at a South Queensferry development we’re working on for Lovell Partnerships Ltd.  Robertson Timber Engineering is designing, supplying and erecting high quality timber framed structures for Lovell’s Crossings development and this week craned the 200th pre-fabricated house frame into place. When complete, the mixed-tenure development will have 178 houses and 120 apartments.  Each timber frame was custom-built at our factory in Elgin, which uses the latest digital tools and technology to maximise efficiency and ensure precision engineering.  As well as being quick, it’s an incredibly effective way for projects to achieve net-zero, passivhaus and high BREEAM ratings. As Mike Turner, Managing Director at Robertson Timber Engineering says, “We’re involved in every stage of the process from design through to production and installation, ensuring excellence and reliability at each step.”  Find out more about the project at https://lnkd.in/ei3byFcw #Construction #housing #engineering    Orchid Sky Construction

  • On National Volunteering Day, we’re reflecting on the meaningful contributions made by our Social Impact Team and employees over the past year. Working across the UK, they have delivered tangible, place-based activities that address the specific needs of local communities.  In 2024, we contributed over 2,700 volunteering hours and more than £135,657 in donations and in-kind resources, delivering a wide range of projects with lasting positive impact.  Highlights include the Meadow Suite in Crewe, a purpose-built bereavement facility created in partnership with NHS Mid-Cheshire Hospitals Charity. In Edinburgh, we supported Lauriston Farm by enhancing facilities for food growing and community events. At Kenmore Nursing Care Home in Cleckheaton, over 66 hours of volunteer time transformed a disused smoking room into a sensory therapy space that promotes residents’ well-being. In County Durham, MiXiT Days now has a refurbished kitchen, enabling them to run healthy eating courses and expand their inclusive arts programs. Our social impact team in Aberdeen have been working with safety education charity Absafe to help get their new base ready putting in planters for community growing and freshening up the site. Meanwhile, in Kilwinning, our collaboration with Barnardo’s led to refreshed rooms for family support services, with young people directly involved in choosing the designs. These are just some of the many initiatives delivered this year showing the meaningful impact our work can have beyond the worksite. A huge thank you to our supply chain partners and subcontractors in supporting this work and for their important contributions which help us delivery the lasting legacy. #construction #volunteering #community #socialimpact  Katy Cameron | Kelly Harkness | David Kindness | Kelly Critchley | Wendy McCartney | Shannon Dawe | Harriett McMean | Alasdair Hill | Laura Wilson | Marta Langton | Jane Elder | SIOBHAN COOPER | Jamie Hughes | David McAlister | Calum Munro | Mark Henderson | Graeme Hannah | Aimee Nicol

  • Amassing an incredible 180 years of work for Robertson between them, we recently celebrated the long service of six employees: Neil Ross, John Donnelly, Neil Paton, Jamie Golden, Keith Wood and Karl Thompson. Neil Ross (pictured far right) began his Robertson career 40 years ago as a joiner and is now a team leader at Robertson Timber Engineering. Also with 40 years of service, as a labourer, John Donnelly (pictured far left) has made a lasting impact on the local construction industry in Elgin. Neil Paton (pictured second from the left) joined Robertson 25 years ago as a labourer on a concrete squad, is now an aftercare manager with Robertson Construction Northern (RCN). Taking a similar route, Jamie Golden (pictured second from the right) started with the business 25 years ago as a labourer and forklift driver before progressing to his current role as site manager with RCN. Keith Wood (pictured centre) also started with Robertson 25 years ago and works as a joiner all over Northern Scotland while Karl Thompson (not pictured) has also been with the business for 25 years as a labourer. As Brian McQuade our Chief Operating Officer says: “Long service like this speaks volumes about the culture and family values we have at Robertson. One where dedication and loyalty is rewarded and recognised and where people want to stay, grow and make a difference. Beyond their own contributions, many of them have played a vital role in mentoring and supporting the next generation too, passing on their skills and values.” Read more at https://lnkd.in/e_eEXEH7 #construction #careers

  • On Friday we had the pleasure of showing First Minister John Swinney MSP around the site of the new Perth High School building which is being delivered for Perth & Kinross Council by Robertson Construction Tayside on behalf of Hub East Central Scotland. The three-storey building will accommodate up to 1,600 pupils and is being built to exacting Passivhaus standards, where energy saving measures and providing a comfortable environment are an integral part of the process. We’re the contractor of choice for a number of low energy projects across the UK and delivered the first Passivhaus primary school in Scotland, also for Perth and Kinross Council. As Kevin Dickson, regional managing director, Robertson Construction Tayside said, the visit was a great opportunity to show the progress of the build and to 'highlight our commitment to quality and sustainability'. • Last week we held our annual business leaders conference at Cameron House, with the highlight being the ROCAs (Robertson Outstanding Contribution Awards). As our Chairman Sir Bill Robertson said on the night, they’re our chance to “celebrate the invaluable contributions of many who work together as part of our diverse family of businesses." The ROCAs recognise the exemplary work of individuals and teams in a number of categories including rising star, net zero, health & safety, early career, sustainability, customer service, project of the year, team of the year and residential development of the year. Paul Alexander, a bricklayer for Robertson Construction Eastern was crowned Employee of the Year, while the team from Robertson Construction Tayside, took the title for Outstanding Business Performance.  The coveted Chairman’s Award was given to Kevin Donaldson Operations Manager for Robertson Construction Northern. He joined Robertson 37 years ago and has been instrumental in successfully delivering projects across Moray, the Highlands & Islands, Lochaber, and Aberdeenshire including the recent accommodation project at RAF Lossiemouth for the UK Ministry of Defence.  The ROCAs is just one of the ways that we recognise and celebrate the diverse individuals who make up Team Robertson. Congratulations to all nominees, those shortlisted and our winners on the evening. #Construction #celebration

  • When Leeds’ West Village launched last month it was already 75% pre-let with robotics, fintech and insurtech companies all choosing to make this state-of-the-art workspace their home.  Robertson Construction Yorkshire & East Midlands delivered the 230,000 sq ft redevelopment project for Bruntwood SciTech, reimagining the former site of West One and Castle House in the heart of the city.  West Village comprises a new four-storey extension with external green living walls and two private garden terraces. The design of the new workspace has sustainability and wellbeing at its heart, and is focused around an expansive new entrance space with shared lounge, breakout spaces and meeting rooms. Jonathan Sizer, Regional Managing Director, Robertson Construction Yorkshire & East Midlands, said: “West Village gives Leeds a state-of-the-art workspace that has the flexibility to respond to the needs of a diverse mix of tenants. It doesn’t just look fantastic - wellbeing and sustainability run through the whole of the project and it’s clear it will be a catalyst for innovation and collaboration in Leeds for years to come." • We’ve been recognised for taking a responsible approach to fleet management, winning the Sustainable Transport category at this year’s VIBES Scottish Environment Business Awards.    The Sustainable Transport Scotland award is given to a business which has ‘set out clear objective to engage with and adopt sustainable travel and transport measures and activities.’     We are building an electric vehicle (EV)-focussed fleet with over 99% of all company cars being either electric or hybrid and are on track to have an all EV/ULEV car fleet before the end of 2024. Working towards decarbonising our commercial fleet, we are currently undertaking EV van trials on different projects and facilities management contracts.    Our Director of Sustainability and Social Impact Graeme Hannah said: “Our purpose is to assure a sustainable future, and an important part of that is what we do to protect our environment, today, tomorrow and for future generations. Winning this award is recognition of the good work we are doing with our employees, customers and supply chain partners to reduce our impact as we work together to protect the natural environment.” Read more about the award win: https://lnkd.in/eTGX2Ste   VIBES Awards | Scottish Environment Protection Agency | The Scottish Government | Energy Saving Trust | Highlands and Islands Enterprise | Scottish Enterprise | South of Scotland Enterprise | Scottish Water | Zero Waste Scotland | NatureScot   #Construction #sustainability #environment #VIBES2024
