Rowcroft Hospice is a charity that supports adults living with life-limiting illnesses in South Devon.

About us

It takes time, compassion, patience, medical expertise and money to help patients and families make the most of every day, but every year we help over 2,000 people living with life-limiting illnesses in South Devon to do just that. By providing comfort, support and specialist services in our patients’ homes, in the community and at our Inpatient Unit in Torquay, we enable families to share precious and joyful moments when they are needed most – whether it’s a beautiful wedding, remarkable reunion, simple thank you or gentle cuddle. At our premises in Torquay, our team of doctors, nurses, social workers and a range of other health and social care professionals provide specialist care in our 12-bed Inpatient Unit. We also care for out-patients and their loved ones, offering therapies, bereavement support and medical consultation in an environment that helps patients and families make the most of precious time together. From Dartmouth to Dawlish, we care for ¾ of our patients in their own homes with a team of community nurses, social workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and bereavement counsellors delivering a holistic approach tailored to individual needs. Last year it cost £8.7 million to provide our services. As an independent charity, more than 70% of our funding comes from the incredible generosity of local people, without whom we would not be able to fund our work. We’re determined to make sure every penny raised from your donations continues to help patients and their loved ones make the most of every moment they have together. Together, we can make every day the best day possible

  • 🚨 🎅 SANTA BY THE SEA EVENT CANCELLED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE 🎅 🚨   Unfortunately, Storm Darragh and the extreme weather impacting the UK has forced Pier Point and Rowcroft to take the decision to cancel the Santa by the Sea event until further notice.   Pier Point and Rowcroft Hospice intend to re-open Santa’s Grotto, but only once we’ve had the opportunity to review Storm Darragh’s impact. • Katie has been volunteering with Rowcroft since November 2022. From uncovering hidden treasures among donated items to making wonderful connections with customers, Katie shares in our latest blog what makes her time spent volunteering so rewarding. ✨ “What I enjoy the most about my role is interacting with our staff, volunteers, and customers,” says Katie. “The shop sees such a variety of people, and it’s lovely to have conversations, hear interesting stories, and learn something new about our customers or the donations they bring.” If you’re looking for a warm welcome, the chance to give back to your community, and the enjoyment of helping people discover one-of-a-kind items, volunteering in our shops and boutiques might be for you! 🛍️ Read more about Katie’s joy for volunteering in our latest blog 👉 https://lnkd.in/ewufV6-C #InternationalVolunteersDay

  • With this week marking national #GriefAwarenessWeek, twin brothers Jake and Ben reflect on the recent loss of their beloved dad (Torquay United AFC legend Paul Holmes) and the importance of talking about feelings of grief. “Men often struggle to confront their grief,” says Ben, “but I’ve realised that half the battle is talking about it. It’s so important to speak up. We’ve been lucky to have each other to lean on, and that’s helped us keep going. Hiding your feelings is the worst thing you can do.” Ben and Jake will be joining The Big Tackle 2025 in memory of their dad and as a way to raise vital funds for the hospice. “Taking part in The Big Tackle will be a way of celebrating Dad’s life while ensuring other families receive the care we did,” said Jake. • In this heartfelt video, Ben and Jake Parsons, 22-year-old twins from Newton Abbot open up about the loss of their dad, Paul Holmes, and the incredible support they received from Rowcroft Hospice during the most challenging time of their lives. Paul, a celebrated local football legend known for his time with Torquay United, passed away earlier this year at the hospice following a diagnosis of bowel cancer. “There’s no price you can put on the care we received,” said Jake. “Rowcroft didn’t just care for Dad; they cared for us as a family. They made us feel at ease and supported us through every step. We don't know what we would have done without them.” Read more about the care that Paul Holmes’ received here 👉 https://lnkd.in/d6JijNEB
