We're celebrating our incredible Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) team. From newborns to seniors, they care for up to 80 patients every morning in our clinics. They perform surgeries from tonsil removal to intricate head, neck, and ear procedures. Made up of doctors, clinical nurse specialists, senior nurses, and healthcare assistants, the team also supports patients and families through major surgeries in our specialist head and neck surgical ward, Clandon Ward. ENT Consultant David Walker praises the team for their brilliant work. He said: “These highly skilled professionals are the ones you’d want looking after your family. They work together, support each other, and stay committed to delivering the best care.” Thank you to our ENT team for your dedication and expertise 👏 #RoyalSurrey #ENT #NHS

World class care for our community
About us
We provide health care services from Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford and adult community healthcare services from Haslemere Hospital and Milford Hospital. Royal Surrey County Hospital provides emergency and general hospital services to a population of more than 330,000 across south west Surrey. It is also home to St Luke’s, our specialist tertiary Cancer Centre, which offers state of the art diagnostic and treatment services to a population of up to 2 million across Surrey, West Sussex, Hampshire and to patients from across the UK and abroad. Milford and Haslemere community hospitals provide health care services to adults across Guildford and Waverley. The Trust has recently been rated as ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for being caring, effective and safe, and ‘Outstanding’ for being responsive to people’s needs and for our maternity services. We employ over 4,000 members of staff making us one of Guildford’s largest employers. In addition, the hospital is supported by a thriving group of 500 volunteers all of whom provide valuable services on an independent, voluntary basis. We attract referrals from across the country for some specialties including urology and our Minimal Access Therapy Training Unit (key-hole surgery) is one of only three such training units in the UK. Our patients also benefit from state of the art diagnostic equipment including two MRI scanners, four CT scanners, interventional radiology equipment and a gamma camera. We have one of the lowest mortality rates in the country. We see around 336,000 outpatients a year, 90,000 patients are admitted for treatment, around 74,000 patients attend our A&E department and we deliver around 3,000 babies.

Congratulations to our first cohort of international paediatric nurses who have successfully registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) 👏 The seven specialist children’s nurses arrived as experienced professionals from Ghana, Nigeria and India earlier this year and have worked hard to adapt their skills and knowledge for a UK ward. Ellen Parker, matron of our children’s ward, Hascombe Ward, congratulated the nurses on their success. She said: “We know how hard you’ve worked to gain your registration and how challenging it has been leaving friends and family behind, so we wanted to mark the occasion to show our appreciation. Well done to the nurses, whose passion and commitment will help us to deliver high-quality, compassionate care 💙 Read more about our overseas paediatric nurses: https://ow.ly/W52750UfGGI #RoyalSurrey #InternationalNurses #NHS

“We have some incredibly skilled specialists in our very valued Maternity Support Workers’ team. They work brilliantly supporting the whole multi-disciplinary service caring for our service users and their families throughout their pregnancy and birth experiences, both on our wards and in the community. We’re so grateful for their dedication and professionalism. Thank you to all our Maternity Support Workers’ we couldn’t do it without you!” Amy Stubbs, Director of Midwifery and Paediatric Nursing. Today, we’re highlighting our brilliant Maternity Support Workers 🎉 They work in our maternity wards and in the community to provide specialist support to mothers before, during and after pregnancy. Sharon Mcconnell, one of our Maternity Support Workers, has been with the Trust for 24 years 😲 She says it’s been a privilege to help support thousands of babies over that time. She said: “I just loved being with the women supporting them with their new born baby in whatever they needed; getting them up after a C-section, showing them nappy changing, bathing baby, breastfeeding, just helping them learn to be a mum. It’s lovely to support them at what can be a vulnerable time.” Thank you to all our Maternity Support Workers for their dedication and care! #RoyalSurrey #NHS #MaternitySupportWorkersDay

“Doing your job when you may be hot, hungry, wet and haven’t slept, definitely builds a resilience that I bring back to my NHS role. When challenges arise it has taught me to step back, reassess and take a calm minute to think through a problem.” Meet Aidan Parsons, a talented Programme Manager who tackles operational cancer performance at the Surrey and Sussex Cancer Alliance. He also thrives in challenging environments as a Troop Commander with 256 (City of London) Medical Regiment, Royal Army Medical Services. Recently back from a six-week deployment in the Middle East, Aidan supported British troops with medical planning while balancing his NHS role and PhD studies. “For me, being a reservist is about developing the skills I use every day and putting them to the test in a different environment that is far less comfortable than what I am used to,” We’re proud to support Aidan and our armed forces community as a Gold Employer under the Armed Forces Covenant. Thank you, Aidan, for your dedication and incredible work! 👏 #RoyalSurrey #Army #NHS

Congratulations to our Practice Development team who were recognised at the National Apprenticeship and Skills Awards. Nominated alongside corporate giants like John Lewis and Hewlett-Packard, Royal Surrey was a finalist in the Employer of the Year category for our work with T Level nursing students at Guildford College. Each year, through a nine-week placement, we give a real taste of life in healthcare to students studying for a T Level in nursing, which is equivalent to three A Levels. Those who complete the course are offered a job interview for a Healthcare Assistant role. Victoria Wilding, Senior Practice Development Sister, also received a nomination as a T Level Skills Champion. She said: “While we didn’t win, it is fantastic to be recognised for our work to inspire 16 to 19 year olds.” #NHS #HealthcareCareers #RoyalSurrey

Congratulations to Piotr Balicki, Nuclear Medicine Clinical Technologist, who just made Royal Surrey history as the first to complete our nuclear medicine apprenticeship! Back in 2021, Piotr worked as an assistant practitioner when he decided to join the apprenticeship programme. Now, three years later, he's graduated with a 2:1 BSc (Hons) degree 🎉 Reflecting on the journey, Piotr said: "It’s been a lot of stress and hard work, but also a brilliant journey. I've loved diving into clinical learning!" Piotr’s apprenticeship included a mixture of workplace and online learning with face-to-face study blocks at the University of West of England.
