About us

We are the Rugby Football League – the national governing body for Rugby League in Great Britain and Ireland. We are committed to developing and growing Rugby League at all levels. We administer the England Rugby League team, the Betfred Challenge Cup, Betfred Super League and the Betfred Rugby League Championship and League One and also support and administer the grassroots game. Our focus on excellence in coaching and development is helping more players start, stay and succeed in the nation’s most exciting summer sport. We work in partnership with clubs and Rugby League Foundations to offer new ways to play, from Play Touch Rugby League to Wheelchair RL. Together we are working hard to inspire the next generation of young players and fans through Sky Try – the largest ever programme of Rugby League opportunities in schools. This is different. • This week marks the first ‘Week of Social Impact’ at the RFL, and we are proud to dedicate the week to spotlighting the outstanding and remarkable efforts of everyone involved in ensuring a positive social impact to our Rugby League communities; from our Charitable Foundations, the Governing Body, our proud Ambassadors and beyond. The Week of Social Impact aligns with the recent launch of the RFL Community Trust, which aims to drive forward our sport’s social impact goals. This Trust is a partnership between the RFL’s Governing Body and Rugby League Charitable Foundations, unified in their commitment to amplifying the power of Rugby League to create positive change.  Since its founding in 1895, Rugby League has been deeply rooted in its community, consistently championing social impact alongside the sport itself, reflecting a commitment that goes beyond the thrill of competition.  On day three of the Week of Social Impact, we would like to highlight our social cohesion goals. We aim to increase sustainable facilities, support our volunteers and our people.  Something we take great pride in.  In 2022, the RFL took a significant step forward by establishing a dedicated social impact team. This team has been instrumental in furthering our mission to make meaningful, lasting changes in the lives of those involved in our sport.  Also launched in 2022, the FSN (Foundation Sustainability Network) a collaborative forum involving RFL development colleagues and nominated Foundation leaders focused on supporting the long-term growth and sustainability of the Foundation landscape.   The network meets quarterly to work towards the aims of Foundation Health, Governance and Showcasing. The creation of The RFL Community Trust is a core recommendation by the Foundation Sustainability Network.   There is a collective belief, underpinned by consultation with peers and knowledge of the effectiveness of similar charitable organisations operated within other sports, that RFL Community Trust provides the best possible opportunity of securing sustainability as well as achieving the stated targets within The RFL’s ‘More than a Sport’ strategy.   Once the Trust is launched this group will transition into the RFL Community Trust Operational Group, ready to continue its work on an even larger scale.  Follow #OurLeagueLife and #LeaguebyImpact online to see the amazing work that goes on. • The Rugby Football League has gone to tender for a sports medical management system – a Medical App – to support clinicians in record-keeping and injury management within the sport. Submissions have been invited to deliver the App by the second quarter of 2025, to allow its introduction for the 2026 season – with a deadline of November 15. Dr Dane Vishnubula, the RFL’s Chief Medical Officer, said: “Rugby League has long been fortunate to receive such high-quality medical support which is clearly essential for a high-impact collision sport – and we believe the introduction of a bespoke Medical App would be an invaluable resource for those medical professionals, and therefore for the sport as a whole. “It would deliver improved medico-legal governance for England Rugby League and our clubs, increasing and simplifying the capture of injury audit data, providing a personalised experience for medical staff, and allowing a more efficient transfer of medical records between clubs, and storage of those records across the sport.” Full details 👉 https://bit.ly/4hrAj7m
