We are excited to share this image of our beautiful rug with fellow rug enthusiasts! Antique Tabriz Four Seasons Rug This rug combines ancient elements of decorative art, traditional symbolism dating back to the spiritual conceptions of the early farming age, and religious scenes. Each of the four parts of the carpet field is independent in composition. It depicts scenes of each season and represents the images of the peasants’ way of life. Autumn Pictures Harvesting, whip up the loaded donkeys to the village tillage and sowing. Winter Images The peasants palying snow balls and in the back ground the masterpiece of the Azerbaijani architecture of the 15th century – the “Blue Mosque” in Tabriz. The centre of the carpet depicts the great Persian poet Omar Khayam holding his book called Rubaiyat Omar Khayam , sitting alongside a young girl, holding a jug of wine. There are 8 cartouches in total in each corner of the rug, on the top, Adam & Eve, in the middle top, the battle between the king and the Lion, symbolizing Good against evil, which has been taken from the wall of Persepolis palace near Shiraz, on the right hand corner the story of God asks Abraham to kill his son, Isaac, to test his faith. In the middle left and right, two more Persian poets Saadi and Hafez and at the bottom left and right , depicting one of the scenes in Nizami Ganjavi's masterpiece(the poet)of his famous Majnun and Layla, and Yousef and Zulaikha, the love story, similar to Romeo and Juliet. In the middle, the great Persian Poet Ferdowsi with the book called Shah Nameh, Book of the kings, yet another Persian master piece. The spring landscape is woven in vivid colours: trees in bloom, a shepherd playing his flute with a flock of sheep, an old man sitting by the river, smoking his pipe. The Summertime Picture Harvesting, women and children bind sheaves and take them off the field. The background shows a camel cade. Despite the independence of each of the scenes, they are unified in terms of composition and style. The illusion of space is achieved through the three-plane reproduction of the topic motifs.
