The Autumn Budget announced a series of sweeping reforms to replace the current tax regime for non-doms. Our recent article runs through all the key changes: 📍 Residence test: From April 2025, if you've been resident in the UK for 10 out of the last 20 tax years, your non-UK assets might be subject to inheritance tax. 🏚️ Excluded property: Assets like holdings in authorised unit trusts and shares in open-ended investment companies may no longer be excluded property. 🎁 Lifetime gifts: Gifts to individuals will only be subject to inheritance tax if you die within seven years of the gift and you were not a long-term resident at the time of the gift. 💍 Spousal exemption: Transfers between UK-domiciled spouses are still exempt, but there may be changes if your spouse is non-domiciled. 🌍UK double tax treaties: Existing double tax treaties with other countries remain intact. Other changes: Agricultural Property Relief (APR), Business Property Relief (BPR), pension funds, and death benefits from pensions will also see some changes.
