Quality Homes for Positive Futures

About us

Saffron Housing Trust is a housing association based in South Norfolk with over 6,600 homes in Norfolk, Suffolk and across East Anglia. We have 200+ employees who are committed to providing quality homes and services to our tenants, offering affordable homes for those in housing need and specialist homes for older and vulnerable adults. We want Saffron to be known for Inspiring Community, Inspiring Trust and being an Inspiring Organisation. At the heart of our strategy is working side by side with our tenants and communities to improve homes and services. We are committed to the National Housing Federation’s Together with Tenants Charter and we review this every year with our tenant groups. As part of our drive to develop new affordable homes in Norfolk and Suffolk, we are committed to helping solve the housing crisis. We have ambitious plans, with a focus on continually improving our services, creating greater efficiency and improved performance in our processes, and helping to shape and support local communities.

  • On Tuesday 10th December 2024, our CEO James Francis will be speaking at Westminster Insight's 'Preparing for Housing Inspections Digital Conference’. His session will cover not only what inspections look like, but also what you should expect, consider and prepare in anticipation of one. Earlier on this year, the Regulator of Social Housing awarded Saffron the highest possible rating of C1 under the new consumer standards, alongside the news that we maintained our G1 and V2 ratings. To find out more about this event, visit the Westminster Insights website here #HousingInspectionsWM

  • Last year, Saffron completed Wave 1 of the Social Housing Decarbonisation scheme, which saw 126 Saffron homes fitted with energy-saving upgrades. We fitted Air Source Heat Pumps in these homes all of which had an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D or below. On some properties with the lowest EPC ratings, we also fitted new windows, doors, ventilation and insulation. Now in Wave 2 of the scheme, more homes have been fitted with the Air Source Heat Pumps. Many tenants whose homes have been fitted with the heat pumps are reporting positive experiences, including a reduction in bills, and warmer homes. • On Friday 22nd November, tenants in Geldeston and Loddon attended our Community Skip Day. With the sun shining brilliantly on a cold and crisp day, staff worked under blue skies alongside tenants who were especially happy to have help clearing their gardens. In Geldeston, one particular household benefited in numerous ways: a Mum and two teenagers (woken especially early for the occasion!) brought items to the skip and lent a wheelbarrow for the larger items. We were also able to offer an Essential Grant for a Bulky Waste collection to another family who had electrical items to dispose of. Andrew Wade from Geldeston Parish Council joined us for a walk around and was delighted with the amount of rubbish we cleared from the car park as well as gardens where tenants were struggling. Neighbourhood Officer Debs Johnson said: ‘A huge thank you to everyone who made it such a brilliant event.’ Attended by: Neighbourhood Officers Debs Johnson, Gareth Smart, Matt Underwood. Neil Belson, Health & Safety Manager, Jenna Cole CCT, Augustine Edema, Citizens Advice, Ali Pridmore from South Norfolk & Broadland Council Environmental Health Team and Andrew Wade from Geldeston Parish Council. • Today marks the start of 16 Days of Action Against Domestic Violence - a global campaign aimed at raising awareness and taking action to end domestic and gender-based abuse.   We’ve spoken to Jenny, our new Domestic Abuse and Safeguarding Specialist, about the important role she’s taken on, and how she hopes to support tenants at Saffron.   Q. What are you looking forward to most about your new role?   A. I’m so thrilled to be joining Saffron Housing Trust as Domestic Abuse and Safeguarding Specialist. This is a really important role and will focus on raising awareness, developing resources and policies and ensuring the highest level of care and support.    Q. How will you help Saffron to continually improve their services?   A. Over the coming months I will be working to achieve the DAHA (Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance) accreditation for Saffron Housing. This accreditation will reflect the organisation’s commitment to meeting safeguarding and statutory duties and will improve staff wellbeing and safety and enhance partnerships and collaborations. The DAHA ensures that survivors of domestic abuse receive an effective and safe response from their housing service. The accreditation will embed standards of good practice and ensure the right response at the right time. Q. What drew you to this role?   A. Safeguarding has been at the heart of my career for over a decade, which is what attracted me to this exciting position at Saffron. I have extensive experience in managing advocacy across Norfolk and have concentrated in areas of Health and Social Care, including forensic and secure mental health services, community services and hospitals in both the public and private sector. My passion will always be in supporting people and I’m really proud to now be in post at Saffron and to continue this journey with them.

  • This is the final week for tenants and residents to participate in our Tenant Census, which closes this Sunday, 17th November. The importance of this census lies in ensuring the information we have about tenants, residents and households is accurate. Having precise information is crucial in tailoring and providing our services to meet the needs of tenants effectively. Tenants can complete the census by following the link below. Paper copies (including other languages and larger font sizes), and alternative formats such as braille, are available upon request by emailing communications@saffronhousing.co.uk. https://lnkd.in/eNHQ5z2Z

  • Very proud to have been part of the Independent East conference hosted by Orwell Housing Association this week, alongside Havebury Housing Partnership, Freebridge Community Housing, and Broadland Housing Group. Amazing talks also from Jonathan Walters, Kate Henderson, and Michael Appleby on the day, which offered valuable sector insight and a glimpse at how AI could enhance future service delivery in social housing. Thanks to everyone involved for organising a fantastic event!

What have we learnt so far from the new regulatory regime in Housing? For our last session of the day, we welcome panel members from Saffron Housing Trust Limited and Havebury Housing Partnership as we discuss our experiences for open discussion, facilitated by Howard Cresswell from Havebury. Independent East is an informal alliance of five community‐focused housing associations in the East of England including Broadland Housing Group Freebridge Community Housing Havebury Housing Partnership Saffron Housing Trust Limited and ourselves here at Orwell.
