  • The ongoing war in Gaza has inflicted unprecedented and potentially irreversible harm on Palestinian children. Children are: 1. Lacking basic access to healthcare 2. Being harmed by explosive weapons 3. Lacking access to food and water 4. Struggling with mental harm 5. Lacking access to education   To safeguard children’s futures urgent and comprehensive action from the international community is needed. The futures of children in #Gaza hang in the balance    Children must be protected from violence. They urgently need a definitive #CeasefireNow and safe humanitarian access.     Read the full "Missing Futures" report 👉 https://lnkd.in/eAvFesfd

  • We welcome the ceasefire announcement between Israel and Hezbollah. Its needs to be sustained indefinitely to protect children in #Lebanon. The deal follows a year of conflict on the southern border and two months of intensified hostilities that have killed more than 3,800 people, including over 240 children. Children now urgently need life-saving support to allow them and their families to rebuild their lives❤️

  • The situation in northern Gaza is not fit for human survival. About 130,000 children aged under 10 have been trapped and deprived of food and medicine for 50 days despite warnings of looming famine⚠️ Humanitarian aid to Gaza has hit an all-time low. We have been unable to access northern Gaza to deliver food parcels for 5,000 families, and other aid supplies, for over seven weeks. We have consequently re-directed and delivered the food parcels to southern Gaza where the needs are still great, though not as critical❌ Safe humanitarian access must be granted immediately to reach those who are trapped in the death zone in the north. The international community must step up and ensure it happens. Without access and a ceasefire, we are condemning children to perish💔 Join our call for a #CeasefireNow and safe humanitarian access➡️ https://lnkd.in/eEV2PeYu

  • How long will children have to pay the price for global inaction? 🌍 ❌ The new climate finance goal agreed upon at #COP29 fails children, their families and communities on the frontline of the #ClimateCrisis again. The new target figure of $300 billion a year for climate-vulnerable countries by 2035, and the failure to address loss and damage flies in the face of the ambition needed to tackle this emergency. The omission of children’s rights from the text is also a disgrace for the increasing number of children who are speaking up about how escalating extreme weather events are pushing them out of their homes and their schools, reducing the food on their plates and forcing them into child labour or marriage⚠️ Gabrielle, 15, a child campaigner from Vanuatu with Save the Children at COP29, said:  “This decision is unfair and completely neglectful of child rights and human rights. If children are not included in these types of decision and policy making, it makes it very hard to get climate justice for one of the most marginalised groups in the world." Children like Gabrielle deserve better. It's high time leaders stepped up and recognised the climate crisis is a child's rights crisis and provide the financial support they need and deserve. Together we can and must #SaveTomorrow. Read Save the Children's full COP29 outcome statement👉 https://lnkd.in/ebtTniE3

  • In celebration of World Children's Day, the Retail & Luxury Goods Club and the Social Enterprise Club at Harvard Business School hosted a masterclass featuring Fondazione Bulgari and Save the Children. About 100 students attended, inspired future leaders who were offered insight into driving corporate social responsibility while also gaining invaluable knowledge in the retail and luxury goods sector. Bulgari Deputy CEO Laura Burdese and Save the Children US Chief Development Officer Luciana Bonifacio highlighted 15 years of successful partnership. To date, the partnership has reached over 2.3 million children in 39 countries, through 139 projects aimed at strengthening high-quality education, youth empowerment, emergency response and fighting poverty❤️ Both organisations believe that cross-sector partnerships are key to achieving sustainable change. Delivering significant impact to date - including $115 million raised globally through the custom Bulgari and Save the Children silver jewelry collection 🌟 “This partnership shows what’s possible when the private and public sectors unite with a shared vision” said Bonifacio. • We are thrilled to announce the winners of the inaugural Save the Children Global Media Awards 2024 ✨ The winning entries represent investigative reporting that has not only exposed grave child rights violations but has also driven meaningful change for children: 🔍Congratulations to Sasha Hinde, Oliver N., Hayley C. and Ruth Evans for winning the award for best Local/Regional Coverage on "Child Rights for Undercover School: Cruelty in the Classroom" for BBC Panorama - an investigative documentary into an independent school for children with special educational needs in the UK, revealing shocking instances of bullying and abuse. Following the broadcast, the school was closed, five staff members were arrested, and the Department for Education launched an investigation. Check it out here 👉https://lnkd.in/eXzCtfKg   🔍Congratulations to Romita Saluja who won the award for best International/Wire Coverage on Children Rights for "How child labour in India makes the paving stones beneath our feet" featured in The Guardian. This is an investigative article into the exploitation of child labour in India’s sandstone industry, where stones are produced for paving in Europe and North America. Following publication, the article sparked lawsuits from British law firms against multinational companies and became a central reference in a roundtable conference in London, urging businesses to address child labour in their supply chains. Check it out here👉 https://lnkd.in/d9Sdwfvw Thank you to all journalists who submitted entries and who work hard every day to shine a light on children's rights ❤️

  • At Save the Children, we’re proud that our founder, Eglantyne Jebb, was the first person to articulate that children deserve to have their own fundamental rights ❤️   She shared her vision with the world when she drafted the historic Geneva Declaration of the Rights of the Child, which was endorsed by world leaders in 1924. To mark World Children’s Day, and the 100th anniversary of the Geneva Declaration, several child rights organisations – including Save the Children – have joined forces to write an updated version of this historic landmark document. Many high-level experts, including our CEO Inger Ashing, have already signed the renewed Declaration to pledge their support for children, and demand that governments around the world better protect children and their rights. Join them and sign now to show your support for children everywhere 👉 https://lnkd.in/eCH82GKN

  • We are very happy to announce that a new climate resilient school we built in Pakistan's Sindh province, where over 2 million children still lack adequate classrooms after the 2022 floods, is now open!📚🏫 In Sindh province, only 1 in 5 of the nearly 20,000 schools that were destroyed or damaged in the catastrophic flooding 2 years ago have been or are being rebuilt. We hope this school will pave the way for more similar projects in the area and more children getting back to learning❤️ Learn more about this innovative project ➡️ https://bit.ly/4fxOEh9 #Pakistan #floods #education

  • World leaders have been too slow in making the systemic changes needed for sustainable development, to protect children and the planet. But it must not be this way. ✅ Children must continue learning when schools are damaged and destroyed by floods. ✅Children must be protected from diseases and have access to resilient healthcare systems that can withstand shocks and adapt to our changing climate. ✅Families need to be equipped to cope when climate change disrupts their incomes and livelihoods. Despite being the most affected, children’s needs and rights are often absent from climate policies and financing. Governments must respect children’s rights by including them in key decisions that affect their lives. World leaders have an opportunity to put children first at #COP29 this year. Here are 5 ways governments can act on the #ClimateCrisis and put children at the centre of climate action. Share to help demand action for leaders today! Together we can #SaveTomorrow 🌎
