2025 has barely started and already we have our first office birthday of the year! As is Scarecrow tradition, Tom Bates arrived to find his desk had been suitably decorated for the occasion. Happy birthday Tom!

Wildlife hazard prevention can seem costly for airports, but the costs of preventable bird strikes are much higher. A recent study published in the journal Nature found that the savings outweighed the costs several times over. Click on the link below to join us in taking a closer look at the study and what it says about how cost-effective wildlife management programs are. https://lnkd.in/exRVk8FK

Our Managing Director Lee Pannett paid a visit to Glasgow Prestwick Airport yesterday. He was there to help them upgrade to the latest version of our state-of-the-art B.I.R.D Tab, but he also stumbled upon a piece of Scarecrow History. This retired ops vehicle sports a 20 year old Scarecrow Premier 1500. It also has a whopping 300,000 miles on the clock! It must have dispersed a lot of birds over its career. And it still runs too. Of course it is no longer in service, and we’re happy the airport is seeing great success with our more modern solutions. Still, we are very proud to see this unit proving so durable. It’s a real testament to the quality of our products. Find out more about our current dispersal products for airports at the link below. https://lnkd.in/e-YVjsVw

❓ Why don't vultures check their bags on planes? ❓ 😂 Because vultures prefer carrion! 😂 That’s just one of the bird-themed Christmas cracker jokes from the Scarecrow Group Christmas Party on Friday. For this year's celebrations, we headed to Ashdown Park Hotel & Country Club for a lovely meal followed by dancing. There was good food, good company (of course!) and buckets of festive cheer. And perhaps best of all, there were silly hats! We’ve just about recovered and are back in the office this morning, working hard to keep people, crops and more safe from birds.

Right now, we're not in nesting season. For urban site operators, that's an opportunity. Since disturbing birds once they have nested is prohibited, the few months between nesting seasons are your chance to get measures in place to stop them coming back next year. Our latest blog looks at how you can do that, and the role Scarecrow systems can play in keeping urban sites free from nuisance birds. https://lnkd.in/eZSNPh8v

This recent BBC article shows just how damaging birds can be to crops. "One night we went to bed preparing to harvest five tonnes of fruit and the next morning we woke up and half of it was gone," says the CEO of Denbies Wine Estate, England's largest vineyard. This is exactly why we developed solutions like the Scarecrow 180 and 360, which use our market-leading bio-acoustic technology to humanely and effectively keep even hungry birds away from crops. https://lnkd.in/ejPYj2Zy

Happy Halloween! To celebrate, we decided to put the "scare" into Scarecrow with a pumpkin carving competition. A very good effort from everyone involved! The pumpkins and the carvers are pictured below, but not in order. Feel free to have a go in the comments at guessing who was responsible for which pumpkin.
