This month at ScenePro we have: Delivered a Police Module 2 training course, done a shed load of product development, won a UK Enterprise award recognising the development of Audit365 under the ‘Innovation in Highway and Road Safety Technology’ category, become members of the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety, been accepted as associate members of the Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG), achieved full membership of the European Road Safety Charter, supplied a CI 200 to support a brilliant project but more about that later met with our colleagues and friends at the Emergency Services Show, prepared for our ISO audit, and the list goes on. Artificial Intelligence vs. Human Intelligence There’s absolutely no doubt in my organic mind that AI is destined to change our lives and the things it will do will be amazing. At ScenePro we use AI as part of our Audit365 solution architecture and yet Audit365 is primarily powered by Human Intelligence, why? Well, almost everyone we meet talks about AI as being a panacea for all things and in doing so, the power and capabilities of the human mind are grossly overlooked. Human organic thinking, cognitive skills, expertise and our ability to evaluate, prioritise and focus on parallel considerations such as competing factors and fiscal management is truly astonishing. When it comes to pragmatic highway condition monitoring, road safety triage or the overarching management of roadworks schemes etc, terabytes or even petabytes of costly point cloud or AI generated data is not what’s needed but of course that has its place. What is needed is the capability for organisations to record their engineers observations and Points Of Interest accurately and in a secure, auditable and searchable manner. This, coupled with robust forensic integrity and workflow management is what highways engineers tell us they need. These people are not dismissive of AI but are more focused upon the specific things that matter to them and their organisation. After a 4 year pilot project involving a number of Local Authorities, ScenePro delivered what was asked and made a real difference to the condition and safety of around 1500 miles of A and B class roads by helping LA’s to accurately target resources and budgets where they were most required. At ScenePro, we embrace emerging technologies, after all that’s our business. However, our commercial focus is to ensure we consult with our customers and deleiver the solutions they tell us they need.
