schoms is the professional body for Senior Managers and technology managers in Higher Education, dedicated to leading and managing a diverse range of educational, technological, media, and institutional development and support services. Our mission is to provide strategic direction, support technological trends, and promote excellence in teaching, learning practices, and their environments. We unite an experienced community to evaluate emerging technologies, collaborate on pedagogical directions, and design innovative teaching spaces. This includes classroom technologies, AV equipment, room designs, and support services tailored to meet the current and future demands of Higher Education. Recognising the unique structural systems across institutions, schoms fosters a community of practice. This community allows specialised and unique roles to exchange best practices and collaborate on common themes. As a professional body, we champion continuing professional development (CPD) across all staff roles. We offer leadership and management development, alongside training and certification opportunities for technical staff in partnership with AVIXA. schoms Bursaries & Awards provide opportunities to explore local issues and challenges, sharing the outcomes with the schoms community.

It has been a busy few Months working on reviewing AV standards at the University of Aberdeen and getting on with the day job, while also getting to attend the Educational Technology Collaborative conference Iowa State University as part of my role as Executive Director and chair of schoms That was a great few days of valuable presentations on a range interesting topics as well as getting to explore the wonderful campus and in particular the ISU innovation Center. I am now over at the other side of the world visiting Flinders University and Looking forward to the AETM - the association for Audiovisual & Educational Technology Management conference starting tomorrow where I will be giving an update on things back home and extending the collaboration between the 3 orgs by looking for volunteers to contribute to our new learning spaces framework. All that and planning the annual conference, which will be a special event to mark 25 years of a community that just keeps getting stronger. What this space for more details coming soon.

One of the many benefits I get from my work with schoms and in the HE sector is attending conferences and trade shows and discovering new tech that can change the way we deliver service and support to our users. At University of Aberdeen we have just completed a successful poc of one of these many new technologies and last week I got the chance to meet with Innomate in person at their Sydney HQ to discuss the outcomes of that poc and look at the roadmap for their innovative full sass AV control and management platform #innomesh and discuss how it could improve the support and management of our AV facilities. These new types of solutions really excite me and sadly show that a number of the established big players really have dropped the ball in delivering toolsets that support not just their own ecosystem, but that work across platforms and get rid of dedicated hardware and on-premise servers. Their has been some improvement from the eatabled providers but with ISE just round the corner it will be interesting to see anyone ups their game.
