James Samworth, Partner and Head of Schroders Greencoat's Energy Transition team, recently spoke with Infrastructure Investor to discuss the evolving landscape of hydrogen investment. Highlighting the transition from early-stage enthusiasm to tangible opportunities, he emphasises green hydrogen's role in complementing other storage technologies like batteries and pumped storage hydro power. At Schroders Greencoat, we're committed to advancing the UK's green hydrogen sector. Through our joint venture with Carlton Power Limited, Green Hydrogen Energy Company Ltd (GHECO), we're aiming to develop a 500 MW portfolio of green hydrogen projects by 2030. Our projects in Trafford, Barrow-in-Furness, and Langage have been awarded contracts by the UK Government, marking a significant contribution towards the UK’s hydrogen targets. About us
Schroders Greencoat is a specialist investment manager dedicated to renewable infrastructure, with over £8.5 billion under management. We aim to provide strong risk-adjusted returns for our investors, while also delivering positive environmental outcomes. Founded in 2009, Schroders Greencoat has built a reputation for unwavering delivery of our investment propositions, as well as for innovation – our offerings have become the model for an entire industry sector. Our investments span the globe, with local expertise in the Europe, the UK and the US, and are managed across a range of publicly listed vehicles*, private market pooled funds, co-investment vehicles and Separate Managed Accounts. Renewable infrastructure is a multi-trillion dollar global sector that will grow by more than $100 billion a year over the next decade. Utilities, energy companies and infrastructure developers will build out the majority of this transition, but the scale of capital involved will require significant private financing. There exists a very large and growing pool of capital which is keen to own and operate these assets, but lacks the inhouse technical skills and sector expertise to manage the investments independently. Our purpose is to bridge this gap, by acting as a solution provider for investors, and providing the partnership, financial, technical and operational expertise to deliver secure incomes for our clients. Acquired by Schroders plc in 2022, Schroders Greencoat is the fourth pillar of the group's private markets investment business, Schroders Capital. Schroders Capital through Schroders Greencoat has the ambition to become a global leader in infrastructure and the alternative investment industry more broadly. * Schroders Greencoat is the investment manager for two listed vehicles, Greencoat UK Wind PLC and Greencoat Renewables PLC.

We’re delighted to announce the acquisition of Stokeford Solar Farm, a 28.5MWp solar farm in Dorset, from Innova . This is the fourth transaction we’ve made from Innova’s development pipeline, and the latest in our successful partnership. With the UK government targeting 70GW of solar capacity on the grid by 2035, assets like Stokeford are an essential part of meeting the country’s long-term renewables goals. Energised earlier this summer, the farm will start contributing immediately to delivering long-term, inflation linked returns. It was a pleasure to participate in the event PUENTE and The Economist Impact held last week in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The theme of the forum, which included food security, energy sustainability, adoption of artificial intelligence technologies and infrastructure is aligned with our approach, allowing for a productive discussion between Schroders' Coen Weddepohl and leaders of the region on the challenges and opportunities facing the Southern Cone in an ever-changing international landscape.

Honoured to host the UK Government’s Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero at a Schroders Greencoat LLP managed solar site! We were thrilled to welcome The Rt Hon Ed Miliband MP, the Secretary of State for the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, to Tiln Farm, one of our most recent solar and battery storage acquisitions (see press release below). It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the assets we manage on behalf of our investors, and discuss the future of investment in the sector. The Secretary of State for Energy expressed great enthusiasm for solar and stressed how important sites like Tiln Farm are in providing greater national energy security and helping with the cost of energy - we are greatly encouraged by the Labour government's continued support for renewable energy initiatives. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Secretary of State for taking the time to visit our solar site and for their commitment to promoting clean energy solutions. #RenewableEnergy #Infrastructure #SustainableInvestment #SecureIncome #SolarPower #SecretaryOfStateVisit #cleanenergysuperpowermission Matthew Yard / Lee Moscovitch / James Louca / Robert Epstein / Lightsource bp
