Advanced materials hold the key to breakthroughs in areas as varied as energy, healthcare, aerospace and construction. Yet despite their transformative potential, communicating their value to policymakers and stakeholders remains a huge challenge. How do you explain the broad impact of something so multifaceted? Sci-Tech Daresbury partnered with the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), bringing together a group of industry leaders to workshop this and other sector challenges. #MaterialsInnnovation #AdvancedMaterials #LCRInnovation #Manufacturing Justin Kelly | Julia Sutcliffe | Phil Carvil | Alexander Broomsgrove | Nicholas Goldspink | Darren Budd | John Leake - Sci-Tech Daresbury | Allister Theobald | Massimo Noro | Ben Paget | Edward Gray | Paul Treloar

Advanced materials carry some of the greatest hopes for improving existing products and creating new ones – especially in the North of England, which has one of Europe’s biggest clusters focused on materials innovation. We partnered with the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) to unpack the challenges the sector faces and explore how it can accelerate economic growth in the North. 🗓️ Just a few short weeks ago we were delighted to welcome a delegation from Hamburg to the campus. The delegation joined us on site as part of their Liverpool City Region visit that was aimed at forging closer strategic links in areas including culture, economy and innovation. The visit to Sci-Tech Daresbury and STFC was particularly focused at exploring potential collaborative opportunities in healthcare innovation. Sci-Tech Daresbury is one of three sites within the Liverpool City Region Innovation Zone offering significant investment zone tax benefits to businesses. During the visit they met with Angela Walsh of STFC, Paul Treloar of Sci-Tech Daresbury and Kevin Moreton of Health Innovation NW Coast to hear about the work that is taking place on and linked to the campus in healthcare. They also visited the Hartree Centre, and heard from Francis Lee about the work they are doing in developing AI and data science solutions being used in the life sciences and healthcare sector. We are pleased to introduce the Health Tech Business Incubation Centre (Health BIC). The Health BIC aims to commercialise businesses in health and life science research and is based at STFC’s Daresbury Laboratory at Sci-Tech Daresbury, thanks to investment from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority. Our Business Incubation Centres provide support to UK deep-tech start-ups in the very early stages of their business journey. Working with ambitious early-stage companies, we provide funding, support and expertise to de-risk innovation and route to market. The Health BIC also brings together key national stakeholders in the North West Health Cluster, including Medical Research Council and Medicines Discovery Catapult, together with regional bodies to support innovators on their journey. This directly links to STFC’s cluster strategy and UK Research and Innovation’s place agenda to create thriving and connected innovation ecosystems. Paul Vernon, our Executive Director: “Our 60+ years heritage means that we have the facilities, the expertise and the partners to support early-stage businesses to reach their full potential. We hope to replicate that successes of our other business incubation schemes and drive more innovation in this vital sector and see more investment in the region.” Find out more: 👉 https://lnkd.in/ePAnaAjf Paul Vernon | Massimo Noro | Amy Farrington | Phil Carvil | William Gault | James Mooney | John Leake - Sci-Tech Daresbury | STFC | Sci-Tech Daresbury | Medical Research Council | Medicines Discovery Catapult | UK Research and Innovation | Liverpool City Region Combined Authority
