Thoroughly enjoyed the SCL - Society for Computers and Law event yesterday hosted by Michelmores - a Tech Transactions Masterclasss. Particularly interesting to hear the panel discuss the no mans land issues where regulation meets legislation with regards to health tech and AI.

🎉 'Computers & Law – The First 50 Years' Book Launch Reception 🎉 On 11th December we would love for you to join us for a networking drinks event themed around the future of technology and law, whilst looking back over 50 years of the Society for Computers and Law.  We will be celebrating the launch of the SCL book “Computers & Law – The First 50 years" which has been edited by Professor Richard Susskind, President of the Society of Computers & Law, and Mark O'Conor, SCL Vice President and Partner at DLA Piper. The book features a carefully curated selection of the most thought-provoking, prescient, and entertaining contributions from SCL's journals and magazines. It is a celebration of five decades of innovation in techlaw and lawtech and of the SCL community and the longevity of SCL's contribution to, and impact on, our sector. Christina Demetriades, Global General Counsel from Accenture, will be in conversation with Professor Richard Susskind and Mark O'Conor, looking at how AI is shaping the profession, and how we can learn from developments over the past half century to help anticipate the opportunities for businesses in the future. Freshly back from the SCL - Society for Computers and Law tech transactions masterclass regarding the impact of digital regulation on contracting and the supply chain, beautifully hosted by Michelmores. One major (and obvious) takeaway: companies wishing to be compliant face a dizzying amount of work (as well as skyrocketing costs) and a lot of people feel a little overwhelmed by the amount of tech regulation going on in Europe and elsewhere on the globe 😵💫. As it was to be expected 🙄, when vast compliance requirements are playing an evermore important part in procurement processes, the hardest hit are smaller businesses, innovation and competition. In this context, initiatives such as the SCL's model AI clauses (thank you Anne Todd for the very informative presentation) can play an important part in keeping the boat afloat. Great insights as well from all the other speakers on the state of play in digital regulation compliance and what this means for contract work and supply chains. Yesterday I attended the SCL - Society for Computers and Law Tech Transactions Masterclass on navigating the impact of new digital regulation on contracting and the supply chain. Being able to gain practical insights from those already fully immersed in the regulatory landscape that us tech transactions lawyers are currently trying to navigate is priceless. I found the sessions covering Financial Services particularly useful, as the challenges in advising clients on the EU’s Digital Operational Resilience Act have been keeping me on my toes!
