Our CEO and Artistic Director Christopher Hampson has made The List's Hot 100 🔥 “Scottish Ballet’s Artistic Director continues to take the company in unexpected directions: in Cinders!, the central character is played by either a male or female dancer, the identity only revealed at curtain-up. Hampson’s ongoing support for emerging choreographers led to three short films and brand-new sections in The Nutcracker.” - The List You can see the new choreography in our production of The Nutcracker on tour from next week! What are the benefits of dance and can it help support the symptoms of menopause? Our Dance Health Programmes Manager, Tiffany Stott recently contributed to a recently published book by Dr Nicky Keay - ‘Myths of Menopause’, a guide to understanding your hormones to optimise your health and performance. Discussing it in relation to the dance health work that she is involved in at Scottish Ballet, Tiffany looks at the benefits and multifaceted effects of dance in general - physically, psychologically and socially. In her chapter, Tiffany also highlights how dance in its nature could potentially, and has been cited in some research, to support the symptoms of menopause such as guarding against osteoporosis, potentially reducing cholesterol, improving mood and reducing stress. Dr Nicky Keay is a hormone health expert based in London and has supported our Performance Medicine team and dancers for many years. We are excited to see the book launch and can’t wait to read Tiffany’s contributions! 📘 Check out Nicky’s new book, available to buy online: https://lnkd.in/eRkzF3iB Image: Dr Nicky Keay pictured with her book ‘Myths of Menopause’ Martin Lanfear #dance #health #benefits #studies #research #menopause

The leadership team recently had an insightful and engaging conversation with Black Arrow Cyber Consulting Limited, to discuss the importance of safeguarding the information of Scottish Ballet’s customers, patrons and employees. The team discussed that all organisations, whether commercial or not for profit, need to manage their security. We explored how that can be achieved through carefully designed security controls across people, business operations and technology. Research shows that the overwhelming majority of successful cyber attacks are enabled by people, meaning that cyber security is not just an IT topic. 💡 Just as we look after the health and wellbeing of our dancers, our leadership is equally looking after the company and its governance to ensure our overall performance stays on pointe. 🩰 Big thanks to Black Arrow for supporting us to learn more about cyber security and how to better stay vigilant. #cybersecurity #governance #charity #cyberintelligence #security #partnerships

Announcing our brand new production, Mary, Queen of Scots, which will have its world premiere at Edinburgh International Festival in August 2025, followed by a Scottish Tour. 👑 “The story of Mary, Queen of Scots is iconic, and part of our heritage in Scotland. It’s been told many times before, but rarely in dance. It’s a familiar story to us all, but it will be told in a very new way, which is so Scottish Ballet.” - Christopher Hampson, CEO & Artistic Director The production will be told through the eyes of Queen Elizabeth I, based on her perceived and imagined relationship with Mary, Queen of Scots, revisiting her past a few hours from death. Choreographed by SB Choreographer in Residence Sophie Laplane, this will be her first full length narrative ballet, created with James Bonas (The Crucible). The ballet will be performed in a striking, contemporary set, with spectacular, period-inspired costumes designed by Soutra Gilmour - award-winning set and/or costume designer of Broadway & West End productions, including & Juliet, Into The Woods and The Tempest. Music will be composed by Mikael Karlsson & Michael P Atkinson, the team behind the stunning score for Scottish Ballet’s 2022 EIF hit Coppélia. Bently Foundation is supporting the creation of Mary, Queen of Scots.
