  • Excellent news 🙌 Medtech innovator Airglove Medical Ltd has secured £500,000 in equity investment to support the commercial launch of its Airglove product, designed to improve patient cannulation. Cannulation, a common but often challenging medical procedure, has a high failure rate, leading to patient distress, treatment delays, and increased healthcare costs. Airglove uses warm air to dilate veins, significantly improving first-time success rates. Originally developed for an NHS Innovations challenge, the device has already been used in over 140 UK hospitals, with expansion planned in Europe and the US. Trials show an 87.5% success rate, and it could save the NHS £31 million over three years in oncology alone. The latest Airglove model, designed with Edinburgh Napier University, was a finalist for Innovation of the Year at the Scottish Knowledge Exchange Awards 2024. Delighted to be backing the firm, and praising the product’s potential to improve patient care while reducing healthcare costs, Kerry Sharp, Director of Entrepreneurship and Investment at our domestic arm Scottish Enterprise, said: “Airglove Medical’s unique product is a prime example of Scottish ingenuity helping to solve global challenges. “In addition to the excellent market potential of this product, it will also enhance the wellbeing of patients who suffer the discomfort and distress of difficult cannulation, as well as easing time and financial burdens on healthcare providers.” For the full article 👉 https://ow.ly/7Ior50V6U6O #ScotlandIsNow #MedTech

  • It's exciting to see the progress of, and interest from global companies in one of Scotland’s first carbon capture and utilisation projects. The Flue2Chem project, based at the UPM - The Biofore Company Caledonian Papermill in Irvine, is exploring capturing CO2 and utilising it for cleaning products. The CO2 is captured using disruptive technology developed by award-winning Scottish tech start-up CCU International. It's then sent to the The University of Sheffield, where the innovative process of converting it into ingredients for household detergents begins. Not only will the project findings inform industry and government on the feasibility of using CO2 as an alternative ingredient for many household and consumer products, but it will also assess the economic impacts for creating a new supply chain.
