Scottish Federation of Housing Associations
Civic and Social Organizations
SFHA is the voice and membership body for housing associations and co-operatives in Scotland.
About us
The Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA) was established in 1975 and is the national representative organisation for housing organisations and co-operatives in Scotland. Together, housing associations and co-operatives provide housing for almost half a million people, that’s 1 in every 11 households across Scotland. They provide homes for life which are warm, dry and secure — at rents people can afford. Our sector relies on good governance, competent and professional planning and service delivery along with sound financing, both for existing and new housing developments. The SFHA exists to lead, represent and support its member organisations from the highlands and islands right down to the borders of Scotland. Our aim is for a thriving housing association and co-operative sector, providing sustainable and affordable homes. We achieve this by supporting our members across Scotland through our Public Affairs, Business Development and Corporate Service teams and providing a unified voice for our members no matter large or small.

SFHA has launched a new campaign 'Still Waiting' about the impact of waiting for a safe, secure, social home. Around 250,000 people in Scotland – nearly one in 20 people – are waiting for a social home. Our social homes make lives and places better, they allow people and communities to flourish. It’s not right that so many lives are on hold, at best, while they wait for their home to become available. But we can turn the tide. We’ve spoken to people across Scotland who are still waiting and over the next few months we’ll be telling their stories. #StillWaiting

Carolyn Lochhead, Director of External Affairs at SFHA said: “Housing associations work every day to prevent homelessness by providing tenants with the support that they might need, whether that’s welfare rights and energy advice or with longer term health and social care needs. But ever more stretched, they can’t do all of this alone. "So we’re pleased to see Scottish Government have listened to our calls for funding to shore up this work, which is so vital at a time when record numbers of people lack a safe, secure and affordable home. As we look towards the Scottish budget next week, we’re hopeful that Scotland’s social homes and social tenants will see further much-needed support.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eTzB3-ET
