🚨Scotland’s Heat Network Vision is here!🚨 More than half of Scotland’s energy consumption goes toward heating our buildings and homes – and if we’re to meet the Scottish Government’s 2045 net-zero target, urgent action is needed. Today, we’re proud to launch our report, National Heat Networks: A Vision for Scotland, which outlines how the Scottish Government can adopt our key recommendations for heat networks and steer a national strategy for the decarbonisation of heat across Scotland. This vision calls for a national strategy to: ✅ Establish a national Heat Networks Vision accompanied by a comprehensive national strategy for heat networks setting out how this will be delivered. ✅ Ensure local authorities are equipped with the resources required to support the deployment of heat networks. ✅ Deliver on proposals in the Heat in Buildings Bill for capturing and mandating waste heat and obligating all building owners to connect to heat networks. ✅ Align and integrate heat networks with broader plans for renewable energy and expanding the electricity network. ✅ Adapt the proposed Heat in Buildings Bill to drive greater heat network connections for public sector buildings. ✅ Support Scotland’s journey to net-zero by taking into account the skills needed for the expansion of heat networks. ✅ Define heat networks as a utility like gas, electricity, water and broadband so they can attract the same level of infrastructure investment that the existing gas network receives. ✅ Fully implement the Heat Networks (Scotland) Act 2021, including the permitting regulations. 📽️ Watch the video to learn more about this critical step in Scotland’s journey to net-zero. 📄 Read the full report to explore our recommendations in detail. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eietzffs. #lowcarbonheat #renewables

Changing how we heat our buildings is the next step in the energy transition and we need to act now if we are going to achieve net-zero by 2045. The delivery of city-scale heat networks and the wide-scale uptake of heat pumps offers huge potential to drive socio-economic benefits across the country, but significant barriers to investment remain. Join our next seminar to hear from the leading industry experts as we discuss the political and policy changes needed to accelerate heat decarbonisation and what this means for the industry. 🔗 Register on our website: https://lnkd.in/e62h2B47 Event Supporter: Energy Technology Partnership (ETP) Official Media Partner: reNEWS - Renewable Energy News #SRHEAT25 #renewables #lowcarbonheat Helen Melone Morag Watson

Last night we hosted a busy reception at Dover House in Westminster, kindly sponsored by the Secretary of State for Scotland. The reception provided an opportunity for representatives of Scotland's renewable energy industry and supply chain to engage with Scottish MPs from all parties. Kirsty McNeill MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Scotland, and Claire Mack, Chief Executive at Scottish Renewables, delivered opening remarks to recognise the achievements of industry this year and highlight our shared priorities for 2025. Our thanks to all those who attended and to the team at the Scotland Office for their generous support.

Scottish Renewables hosted an event in Aberdeen with Michael Shanks MP, Minister for Energy, and Catherine Williams, Deputy Director of the Energy Consents Unit, to discuss the UK and Scottish government's recently announced proposals to streamline the planning process for determining energy infrastructure consents in Scotland. The event provided an opportunity for both governments to engage with members of Scottish Renewables on the detail of the proposals ahead of the consultation closing later this month and to discuss how any future reforms should be delivered. We also heard from Christianna Logan, Director of Customers and Stakeholders at SSEN Transmission , and Grant Douglas, Head of Planning and Environmental Policy at ScottishPower Renewables, who offered their response to the proposals and more broadly on how we can create a fairer planning system for both industry and local communities on the journey to net-zero. #renewables #netzero #energytransition

Last week, Stephen McKellar and Holly Thomas from our grid policy team headed south of the border with industry colleagues to see the exciting progress of Inch Cape Offshore Limited's offshore substation that will help connect its 1.1GW offshore wind farm off the Angus coastline. Roughly the size of the Shetland Islands, the offshore wind farm itself will be one of Scotland’s largest, generating enough clean energy to power more than half of Scotland’s homes. The offshore substation is in the final stages of construction and assembly at manufacturer Smulders Projects UK’s production facility in Wallsend, Newcastle upon Tyne. Inch Cape is working with both Siemens Energy and Smulders, as well as dozens of suppliers, on the Siemens Energy Offshore Transformer Module (OTM®) and jacket foundation to piece together the final installation. Thanks to the knowledgeable tour guides who explained the technical workings of the world's first OTM2 including the largest ever offshore AC transformers. We thoroughly enjoyed going from desk-based policy to seeing real-life projects up close and at scale!
