A story that deserves more attention so far this season is Kellen Fisher at Norwich City.
He came through the Bromley academy, local to him in south-east London, where he broke into the first team as an 18-year-old in the National League a couple of seasons ago. Before that, he spent time on loan at Welling United and Cray Wanderers further down the non-league ladder.
Norwich signed him in the summer of 2023 for a low six-figure fee following his breakthrough non-league season, and he spent much of his first year in Norfolk on the fringes of the first team, starting in the cups and filling in when needed.
Now 20, Fisher is establishing himself a starter at right-back under new coach Johannes Hoff Thorup, signed a new four-year contract last month, and has also made his England international debut for the U-20s over the summer.
There are similarities to Max Kilman. He followed a similar route coming out of non-league Maidenhead United to join Wolves, where he went on to become one of the better Premier League centre-backs and club captain, as well as earn his junior club(s) a huge windfall with the move to West Ham.
Prospects like Fisher showcase the depth of talent there is in English football, not least within the non-league system. They just need the opportunities to show what they can do
