  • Voluntary youth organisations like Fun Club rely on funding and volunteers, including those willing to act as trustees. These roles can be so rewarding as you get to see the positive impact on the young people who engage. We'd highly recommend giving a few quid or voluntary hours to support organisations like this. 👍

  • A national survey of young people on violence looking at many of the themes we explored 18 months ago. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Executive Director of the Youth Endowment Fund.

🚨YEF today published the Largest ever survey of UK teenagers on violence. 5 facts you need to know 👇 1. Violence is depressingly common. In the last year, 1 in 5 teens were victims. 1 in 6 perpetrated violence. Over 1 in 2 witnessed violence. Worse news: Things seem to be getting worse. 2. Why does this violence happen? Main reason: because a child felt threatened, humiliated, bullied or attacked. But hate also plays a part - a third of children who injure others say that part of the reason was the race, religion, sexuality or gender of the victim. 3. How are we doing at helping these children? Not great. 9 out of 10 children who injure someone get NO SUPPORT to change things. Imagine how things would change if we got support in place? 4. What’s infuriating is that we often know which children need support. It’s the SAME children (Severely absent, Arrested, Missing, Excluded). Huge opportunity for the new government to get support to them and change things. 5. BUT it's totally wrong to think that violence is a niche problem for some children. 1 in 2 teens changed their behaviour last year because of the fear of violence. 1 in 5 struggled to sleep. This is about all of us and it’s time to change it. You can read the whole report here. The good news is that it doesn’t have to be this way. https://lnkd.in/ee47ECNM

  • It has been quite a week. On Tuesday our CEO, Phil Pusey MBE, accompanied by his family, was presented with his award by William, Prince of Wales at Windsor Castle. On Wednesday, our PSHE Education Service hosted their first all-day conference with over 220 delegates from schools, alternative education providers, youth settings and partner agencies. Delegates went away more aware of the support available from the Service, more confident about delivering PSHE in their settings and more knowledgeable about who and what else was out there to help both them and the young people they are supporting. Last night we held our AGM, expertly chaired by Jeremy Cotton, where we: * Were joined by Judy Scott-Moncrieff representing Staffordshire's Lord Lieutenant and therefore King Charles (who couldn't be with us due to birthday celebrations), Mark Sutton, Natasha Moody as well as Staff (current and future), Trustees, Member organisations and Young People. * Celebrated the achievements of the last 12 months * Launched our updated State of the Voluntary Youth and Children's Sector Report which can be accessed here - https://lnkd.in/eZ9JhVZB * Gave out 3 Impact Awards to member organisations and their volunteers * Heard from Tom and Caitlyn on their busy year with Staffordshire Youth Union, our elected youth council * Heard from Bernie Brown, Staffordshire's (still relatively new) Director of Children's Services. * Enjoyed time to network over a great buffet. Thank you to all who came along to celebrate with us. Keep up the brilliant work supporting local children and young people across Staffordshire.

  • A fab day of learning and networking, mixed in with fun and food. And a healthy reminder of why we all do what we do, which is to positive support and impact the lives of children and young people so they can grow and thrive. A great way to help the connection between formal and informal education too.

Wow wow wow. What a day, I’m not sure I’ve fully absorbed today, such a humbling experience. To hear the comments about todays conference, the service we provide and resources we’ve created was an incredible. Sometimes you have an idea and you hope you’ve got it right but you are just never sure. Today wouldn’t have been possible without funding from UK Home Office Safer Streets, Staffordshire Commissioner for Police, Fire and Rescue and Crime. Support from Staffordshire Council of Voluntary Youth Services and all our guest speakers, marketplace stall holders, helpers/cheerleaders, and most importantly our delegates. I can’t wait to see the impact today, read the feedback and hear about people’s action plans. A very wise woman, my ex-line manager, once told me that training should always give people the opportunity to reflect on their practice and build upon it. If it doesn’t do that it’s not a good use of your time as the trainer or theirs. I’ve always kept these words at the heart of my practice and I hope today has truly done that. Here’s to more consistent, quality, age-appropriate PSHE education in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent 👏👏👏

  • We are in the midst of Trustee Week, celebrating the crucial role of these amazing volunteers who do so much to ensure the charitable sector is run compliantly and with maximum positive impact. We are so grateful to our Trustee Board who are unwaveringly supportive, yet constructively challenging, bringing strength to our strategic direction of travel and operational oversight. Watch Alana and Zander, 2 young trustees on our Board, share their journey and the value young people can bring to Boards. https://lnkd.in/gSF9sCWW
