🚨 WE LET 11 TEENAGERS RUN LOOSE IN THE STUDIO 🚨 (But not on the stairs. Safety first. We like our teenagers upright.) As part of our #ThinkLocalFirst campaign, we teamed up with Bridgwater & Taunton College’s T-Level and B-Tech students to give them a proper, hands-on taste of the media world. Their mission? Create a video series showing what really happens behind the scenes at Sedgemoor fm. 🎥 And let’s just say… Well, they delivered. With cameras rolling, ideas flying, and only mild amounts of controlled chaos, they learnt a tonne about teamwork, storytelling and about the sheer number of buttons and sliders on a mixing desk. (So. Many. Buttons.) But work experience isn’t just about making Dave Englefield coffee or helping Foxy find the man with the money amid the daily whirlwind of radio life. It’s about real skills, real challenges, and real confidence-building moments. It includes stepping up to direct a shoot, problem-solving on the fly, or figuring out how to get the perfect sound without accidentally recording three minutes of studio chatter. Most importantly? They had fun. Maybe too much fun. (Have we ruined them for real-world jobs? Possibly. Sorry, future employers.) Check out the link below to see what they created, plus also see the link to the article to see what's happened next for the producer Toby Lee and the video editor! Meanwhile... big question… Should we do a Season 2? 🤔 #ThinkLocalFirst #SedgemoorFM #FutureMediaMoguls

👀Mandy Trunks knows all about our networking events. She was at our first ever networking breakfast and been a regular ever since that summer of ’22! She’s seen it all - the venue swaps, the table shuffles, the ever-growing buzz of brilliant businesses joining us over coffee, pastries and fruit. Mandy's services include helping SME's with business admin. She says, "As a sole trader working from my home office, networking isn’t just about finding new clients - it’s about company, friendship, and building a support network." Mandy's not kidding. At her very first event, she connected a business with a bookkeeper they still use today. She’s built strong relationships, found trusted sounding boards, and gained something pretty rare when you work solo... She's found work colleagues, without the office politics! And that’s what we love about the Sedgemoor fm business networking community. It’s not just about handing out business cards and hoping for the best. It’s about real connections. Real support. The kind that makes running a business that much easier (and dare we say… more fun?). So if you’ve ever wondered whether networking is for you, Mandy’s got some wise words: "Just do it". This is such a friendly environment and a great way to enrich our community and life with warm supportive help. We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. 💙 Come join the fun. You never know who you might meet… 😉 📅 Next event details here: https://lnkd.in/eeTTJETg 📷Justin Krause

🚨 Once upon a time, a Chamber of Commerce was just blokes in pin-striped suits, puffing cigars, and maybe doing “serious business things” over a whisky. But these days? Different story. Bridgwater Chamber of Commerce has already flipped the script with a board that has powerhouse women and men. And now, they're putting on an event that’s all about celebrating women who make things happen. 🙌 International Women’s Day is coming. And it’s going to be a cracker... 📅 Friday, 7th March - 9am- 4.30pm 📍 Enmore Park Golf Club 👩💼 Panel discussions, hot-seat coaching, interactive workshops, more networking than you can shake a LinkedIn request at… oh, and a driving range. (Because smashing things at high speed is very therapeutic.) International Women's Day isn’t just a networking event - it’s a movement. It’s about championing women, supporting each other, and proving that business success looks like all of us. 🌟 So, whether you're a boss, a dreamer, a doer, or just someone who loves a good chat over a cuppa, this is for you. 🔗 Grab your spot: https://lnkd.in/enuAfKAb Tag a powerhouse woman who should be there! 👇🔥 📷 IMPACT 20twenty #Internationalwomensday

Burnout. It creeps in like a dodgy Wi-Fi signal - one minute you’re running at full speed, the next you’re buffering… 🌀 But not now we've heard from Zane McCormack - the Burnout Prevention Coach! At this month’s Sedgemoor fm Business Networking Breakfast, Zane took the stage at Enmore Park Golf Club and hit us with some hard truths (and lightbulb moments) about burnout symptoms and how to keep burnout at bay. 🔥 Key takeaway? You can’t pour from an empty coffee cup - but you can refill it with good connections, great conversations, and a little time to breathe. And speaking of cups… Enmore Park Golf Club poured the coffee, laid out a brilliant breakfast, and gave us the perfect space to do what we do best: laugh, learn, and grow together. 📸 Big thanks to Justin Krause/ IMPACT 20twenty for capturing the magic and making us all LOOK GOOD BEFORE 9am! 👉 If you missed this one, forgive yourself, and book the next one, but don't take too long to book, because half the places are already booked!: https://lnkd.in/eWs5BAuy Paul Smith, Matthew Ruddle, David Ballantine, Mandy Trunks, Tamasin Holt, Alastair Warren, Sally Maidment, Helen Lacey, Rob Morrish, Shaun Bartle, Leanne Jeanes, Simon Lomen, Brian Denning, Mark Waite, David Parsons, Aisling Magill, Ben Timberley, Becky Wright, Roger Smith, Robert Dakin, Stuart Allen, Lyndsey Bath, Kit O'Brien, Nick Ratcliff BA(Hons) DipArch RIBA, Paul Newman, Sally Palmer, Pippa Whitfield, Neil Fellowes. #thinklocalfirst #NetworkingDoneRight, #BusinessWithASmile #FunAndBusiness, #SedgemoorFM #BurnoutBeGone #SupportLocal, #GrowYourNetwork, #EnmoreParkGolfClub, #CommunityFirst

10 TOP MISTAKES PEOPLE MAKE WHEN TRYING TO #ThinkLocalFirst 👇 💰 1. Buying from a big chain… then complaining the high street is disappearing. (Pick a side.) 🚶 2. Saying “I’ll try that new local restaurant soon” for three years straight. It’s still open, but for how much longer? 📦 3. Ordering online when the shop down the road sells the exact same thing. Same price. No shipping fees. No three-week wait. Just saying. 💳 4. Using an independent café’s free WiFi… while drinking your Costa. Cold move. Come on, mate. 🛒 5. Loving a shop’s quirky vibe… and then walking out without buying anything. Thought might count, but they don’t pay the bills. 👕 6. Buying a t-shirt online because it’s £1 cheaper. Then moaning when there’s nowhere left to buy clothes locally. 🍞 7. Saying, “I didn’t even know we have an insurance broker in town!" Just been here 30 years, you just have to look up when you walk down the High Street. 🎁 8. Buying a birthday present last-minute and panicking because Amazon won’t deliver on time. Local shops? Fully stocked. Problem solved. 👩🎤 9. Ignoring local musicians, but paying £100 to see a big-name artist. Catch them at the pub now before they hit the charts. 📻 10. Not listening to local radio. Cough Sedgemoor fm. Cough. We don’t play Adele three times an hour. That alone deserves your support. No offense Adele - once a day is enough! So, how many of these have you done? Be honest. We won’t judge… much. 👀😂 Bridgwater Chamber of Commerce, Bridgwater Town Deal, Somerset Chamber of Commerce, Bridgwater Town Council Visit Somerset

💎 Some things just fit perfectly together... Like the diamond in a ring, or a charm on a bracelet, or a family-run jeweller's and a local radio station with a big heart. 😉 That’s exactly how it felt when Jools, the jewellers in Bridgwater's High Street teamed up with Sedgemoor fm. Denise Finch didn't just want an ad; she wanted something that truly reflected their business - something with a sparkle. ✨ So, we got to work, crafted an advert campaign, but also wrapped their message into our much-loved Birthday File sponsorship, sharing their name throughout the day, both celebrating local birthdays and making people smile. And guess what? It worked. Denise from Jools says, "Partnering with Sedgemoor fm has been a fantastic experience! The Birthday File sponsorship was a perfect match for our brand, giving us consistent, daily coverage. Since launching our ad campaign, we’ve seen more interest in key areas of our business. The team is helpful, creative, and genuinely wants us to succeed - we’re excited to build on this success!" And this is why we love Think Local First too. Jools is a family-run jeweller, and we’re a station rooted in our community. Helping local businesses shine. That’s what we do. And we’re not stopping here… We’ve got something extra special in the works with Jools (something fun, something that will give Jools (and the whole community) a reason to celebrate. More on that soon. 😉 But for now, here’s to the businesses that make our high streets glimmer. And here’s to radio that works. 📻 Fancy joining Jools and a host of other local businesses? 🌟 Meet Frankie Moore, Sedgemoor fm's very own Seagull Superfan and all-round legend. 🏟️ We send young Frankie, out into the wilds of Weston-super-Mare AFC on shiveringly chilly afternoons (where the Seagulls wear scarves). Armed with his boundless enthusiasm, he's been keeping us up to date on how the Seagulls we're flying high (and now just a but lower) this season. Through his time with us, Frankie’s learned a thing or two about media (and surviving Weston winds), and last season, he had the pinch-me moment of meeting the one and only commentating wizard, Martin Tyler. Yes, we’re muchly jealous. From budding broadcaster to proper media whizz, Frankie’s journey is what Sedgemoor fm is all about - giving opportunities & following passions. 💬 Got your own local story to share sporting or otherwise? Or maybe you fancy a spot on our team - summer sports coming up, so need to freeze like Frankie. Drop us a message if you want to get involved! #ThinkLocalFirst #CommunityHeroes
