    I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Director of Operations at SEE (Someone Else's Eyes).     Really grateful for everyone who brought us to this moment. The Times', Defence Editor, Larisa Brown told the story of SEE's work in the Army so far in today's paper. Thank you to Windsor Leadership Trust for creating the space to bring leaders from across British society together. Thank you to the Commandant of Kendrew Barracks for giving the pilot a home. Thank you to Lt Col Ben Hawes for taking the Poachers (2 R Anglian) on the journey, and helping us find out that when you prioritise people and teams, you get BOTH improved performance AND improved behaviours. Thank you to Brig Guy Foden for sponsoring the work to be expanded across the Desert Rats (7LMBCT) and believing in the power of high performing teams and a strong healthy organisation.     Last week the Windsor Leadership Trust interviewed Lt Col Ben Hawes MBE and Samuel on how their experience on their Emerging Strategic Leaders Course was the catalyst for the development of the Army cultural change pilot (as well as work in the Police and Civil Aviation Authority).   • Last Wednesday, Samuel was back in Kendrew Barracks for the Army's #teamwork day. SEE joined 7 Brigade HQ to deliver workshop one to all it's military and civilian staff. A critical part of leadership is setting a personal example - and it was great to see Brigadier Guy Foden and his team leading the charge. Really humbled by the honesty, humanity and hard work that the team brought to the day. #desertrats

    Isn't this a bit pink and fluffy for the British Army? Surely it's EITHER culture change OR operational effectiveness. What we have learned from the units that have gone through our programmes is - that old perception presents a false narrative and a false dichotomy. In fact, it is BOTH improved culture AND improved operational effectiveness. Mission command (centralised intent with de-centralised command), underpins how the British Army fights. Trust underpins mission command. The commander cannot use mission command without trusting their subordinates (and vice versa). SEE's workshops help individuals and teams confront their vulnerabilities. This in turn builds a deeper vulnerability-based trust. Indeed, rather than being pink and fluffy the units that engage in this activity operate quicker and more effectively on combat exercises - out-thinking and out-fighting their "adversaries" - whilst also being places of improved morale, wellbeing, resilience and team culture. When you look after your people and teams, you look after both people and performance. #culturechange #culturematters #culturetransformation #culture

  • How did SEE's work with the Army start? Samuel's work with the Army began through a chance meeting at the Windsor Leadership Trust. A conversation about culture change in the British Army led to a pilot of culture change workshops with two units. The work demonstrated so much promise that it is being expanded into a Brigade-wide delivery with the 7th Light Mechanised Brigade - The 'Desert Rats'. #culturechange #culturematters #culturetransformation #culture #culturefirst
